This week's mix explores the more downtempo, ambient and droney side of LTO's listening tastes and features tracks that he feels create an incredible sense of space. Throughout the mix there's also a strong feeling of nostalgia and sentimentalism, created both through the decayed quality of certain sounds and through emotive chord progressions.

A solo electronic producer based in Bristol, LTO first garnered attention and praise in 2011 as part of the Old Apparatus collective with their abstract experimental bass-driven music, submerged in swirls and fragments of otherworldly static and interference. 

Now working solo, LTO released his debut LP ‘The Number From Which All Things Come’ last year - a record including re-visioned workings of early ideas along with off-shoots of the mysterious Old Apparatus collective. For many, he keeps remnants of that same mystery and wonder, but to others he contradicts and flips this facade to give a sentiment of warmth and openness.

Composition/Field Recordings

Urbanism was made with a process like approach to generating sound structures. Field recordings were used as input material for an analysing electronic system, that would produce rhythmical and harmonic constructions based on the source materials content.
I made field recordings in The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, specifically hectic industrial sounds, and sorted the sounds in categories based on timbre and phenomenal characteristics. A controller was used to control a couple of global parameters to make movements on a larger time scale.
