Hari, Shwe and I met at my studio a year ago and decided we'd jam something. Hari sang Pakkala Nilabadi composed by St Thyagaraja and I played the keys. Shwe was our audience cum recordist cum motivator. We had total fun that day. Audio captured on a single mic in addition to my keyboard's line.

As a grand finale to this album, IndoSoul, Karthick Iyer Live presents ‘Rejoicing in Raghuvamsa’, ending it where it all started. Composed by Patnam Subramania Iyer, Raghuvamsa Sudha is one of the happiest carnatic songs. This is a classic violin piece in Raga Kadhanakudhukalam, and serves as a conclusion in carnatic concerts. This high energy piece is as much fun to perform for the musicians in the band, as it is for the listeners in the audience.

For a class project, I had to come up with an artistic mission and a project that reflects that mission. Over the last few years, I have been very interested in mixing different styles of music; this is the basis for my world fusion band, Jugal Vandy, and the remixes/mashups that are on my SoundCloud page. For the demo portion of my project, I composed an original refrain in Bilahari Ragam and, with a few friends, I recorded a song that fuses elements of Carnatic music and Jazz music. 

This is my very first recording where I am both a performer and the producer. All the recording, mixing, and editing was done by me. I would like to especially thank Shelby for writing the Jazz chord progression. Also thanks to Richard and Vinay for helping me out with this project.

Prelude in Bilahari is IndoSoul's take on the Indian classical song Paridana Meechite, originally composed by Patnam Subramaniya Iyer in the 19th century. This violin and piano duet performed by Karthick Iyer and Dondieu Divin brings together the rich tradition of Indian and Western classical music with the violin melody in Raga Bilahari interwoven with Bach inspired lines on the piano.
