I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.

ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
jap jap jeevaa sathigur naao |1|
Chanting and meditating on the Name of the True Guru, I live. ||1||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
paarabreham pooran guradhaev |
O Supreme Lord God, O Perfect Divine Guru,

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲਾਗਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa laago thaeree saev |1| rehaao |
show mercy to me, and commit me to Your service. ||1||Pause||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
charan kamal hiradhai our dhaaree |
I enshrine His Lotus Feet within my heart.

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
man than dhan gur praan adhaaree |2|
I offer my mind, body and wealth to the Guru, the Support of the breath of life. ||2||

ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
safal janam hovai paravaan |
My life is prosperous, fruitful and approved;

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
gur paarabreham nikatt kar jaan |3|
I know that the Guru, the Supreme Lord God, is near me. ||3||

ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
santh dhoor paaeeai vaddabhaagee |
By great good fortune, I have obtained the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੭੦॥੧੩੯॥
naanak gur bhaettath har sio liv laagee |4|70|139|
O Nanak, meeting the Guru, I have fallen in love with the Lord. ||4||70||139|

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
gur parasaadhee vidhiaa veechaarai parr parr paavai maan |
By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.

ਆਪਾ ਮਧੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
aapaa madhae aap paragaasiaa paaeiaa anmrith naam |1|
Within the self, the self is revealed, when one is blessed with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਜਮਾਨੁ ॥
karathaa thoo maeraa jajamaan |
O Creator Lord, You alone are my Benefactor.

ਇਕ ਦਖਿਣਾ ਹਉ ਤੈ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਗਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eik dhakhinaa ho thai pehi maago dhaehi aapanaa naam |1| rehaao |
I beg for only one blessing from You: please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
panch thasakar dhaavath raakhae chookaa man abhimaan |
The five wandering thieves are captured and held, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.

ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਾਗੀ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥
dhisatt bikaaree dhuramath bhaagee aisaa breham giaan |2|
Visions of corruption, vice and evil-mindedness run away. Such is the spiritual wisdom of God. ||2||

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਚਾਵਲ ਦਇਆ ਕਣਕ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਪਾਤੀ ਧਾਨੁ ॥
jath sath chaaval dhaeiaa kanak kar praapath paathee dhaan |
Please bless me with the rice of truth and self-restraint, the wheat of compassion, and the leaf-plate of meditation.

ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਘੀਉ ਕਰਿ ਐਸਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
dhoodh karam santhokh gheeo kar aisaa maa(n)go dhaan |3|
Bless me with the milk of good karma, and the clarified butter, the ghee, of compassion. Such are the gifts I beg of You, Lord. ||3||

ਖਿਮਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਊ ਲਵੇਰੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਛਰਾ ਖੀਰੁ ਪੀਐ ॥
khimaa dheeraj kar goo lavaeree sehajae basharaa kheer peeai |
Let forgiveness and patience be my milk-cows, and let the calf of my mind intuitively drink in this milk.

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਰਮ ਕਾ ਕਪੜਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥
sifath saram kaa kaparraa maa(n)go har gun naanak ravath rehai |4|7|
I beg for the clothes of modesty and the Lord's Praise; Nanak chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||7||

You are my Soul, my Breath of Life, the Giver of Peace.

You are my Lord and Master; I am Your slave.

ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
thumaaree ousathath karo dhin raath |1| rehaao |
that I may sing Your Praises, day and night. ||1||Pause||

ਹਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੰਤ ਤੂ ਬਜਾਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
ham thaerae janth thoo bajaavanehaaraa |
I am Your musical instrument, and You are the Musician.

ਹਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
ham thaerae bhikhaaree dhaan dhaehi dhaathaaraa |
I am Your beggar; please bless me with Your charity, O Great Giver.

ਤਉ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣੇ ॥
tho parasaadh rang ras maanae |
By Your Grace, I enjoy love and pleasures.

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥
ghatt ghatt anthar thumehi samaanae |2|
You are deep within each and every heart. ||2||

ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਉ ॥
thumaaree kirapaa thae japeeai naao |
By Your Grace, I chant the Name.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
saadhasang thumarae gun gaao |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing Your Glorious Praises.

ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਦਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
thumaaree dhaeiaa thae hoe dharadh binaas |
In Your Mercy, You take away our pains.

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਮਇਆ ਤੇ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
thumaree maeiaa thae kamal bigaas |3|
By Your Mercy, the heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||3||

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
ho balihaar jaao guradhaev |
I am a sacrifice to the Divine Guru.

ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੇਵ ॥
safal dharasan jaa kee niramal saev |
The Blessed Vision of His Darshan is fruitful and rewarding; His service is immaculate and pure.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
dhaeiaa karahu thaakur prabh maerae |
Be Merciful to me, O my Lord God and Master,

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੩੧॥
gun gaavai naanak nith thaerae |4|18|31|
that Nanak may continually sing Your Glorious Praises. ||4||18||31||

The glorious vision of Your slaves, O Infinite Lord, is wonderful and beauteous.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
naam binaa sabh dhuneeaa shaar |1|
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the whole world is just ashes. ||1||

ਅਚਰਜੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਦਮ ਸਲਾਹ ॥
acharaj thaeree kudharath thaerae kadham salaah |
Your Creative Power is marvellous, and Your Lotus Feet are admirable.

ਗਨੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥੨॥
ganeev thaeree sifath sachae paathisaah |2|
Your Praise is priceless, O True King. ||2||

ਨੀਧਰਿਆ ਧਰ ਪਨਹ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥
needhariaa dhar paneh khudhaae |
God is the Support of the unsupported.

ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੩॥
gareeb nivaaj dhin rain dhiaae |3|
Meditate day and night on the Cherisher of the meek and humble. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ॥
naanak ko khudh khasam miharavaan |
God has been merciful to Nanak.

ਅਲਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਦਿਲ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
alahu n visarai dhil jeea paraan |4|10|
May I never forget God; He is my heart, my soul, my breath of life. ||4||10||

anmrith naam ridhae mehi dheeno janam janam kee mail gee |1| rehaao |
He has enshrined the Ambrosial Name of the Lord within my heart, and the filth of countless incarnations has been washed away. ||1||Pause||

ਨਿਵਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਪੁ ॥
nivarae dhooth dhusatt bairaaee gur poorae kaa japiaa jaap |
The demons and wicked enemies are driven out, by meditating, and chanting the Chant of the Perfect Guru.

ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾ ਬਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥
kehaa karai koee baechaaraa prabh maerae kaa badd parathaap |1|
What can any wretched creature do to me? The radiance of my God is gloriously great. ||1||

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
simar simar simar sukh paaeiaa charan kamal rakh man maahee |
Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance, I have found peace; I have enshrined His Lotus Feet within my mind.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੯੮॥
thaa kee saran pariou naanak dhaas jaa thae oopar ko naahee |2|12|98|
Slave Nanak has entered His Sanctuary; there is none above Him. ||2||12||98||

ho this vittahu vaariaa shodd siaanap hoe eiaanaa|
I am sacrifice unto him who repudiating all cleverness becomes childlike

ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਖਸਮੈ ਦਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ॥
ho this vittahu vaariaa khasamai dhaa bhaavai jis bhaanaa|
I am sacrifice unto him who Loves the will of the Master.

ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਲੁਭਾਣਾ॥
ho this vittahu vaariaa guramukh maarag dhaekh lubhaanaa|
I am sacrifice unto him who becoming Gurmukh wishes to follow the way of the Guru.

ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਚਲਣੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮਿਹਮਾਣਾ॥
ho this vittahu vaariaa chalan jaan jugath mihamaanaa|
I am sacrifice unto him who considers himself a guest in this world and keeps himself ready to depart from here.

ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ॥੩॥
dheen dhunee dharageh paravaanaa |3|
Such a person is acceptable here and in the hereafter.(3)

ਮਿਲਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
milo santhan kai sang mohi oudhaar laehu |
Let me join the Society of the Saints - save me, Lord!

ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥
bino karo kar jorr har har naam dhaehu |
With my palms pressed together, I offer my prayer: give me Your Name, O Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗਉ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਉ ਤੁਮੑ ਦਇਆ ॥
har naam maago charan laago maan thiaago thuma dhaeiaa |
I beg for the Lord's Name, and fall at His feet; I renounce my self-conceit, by Your kindness.

ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨ ਧਾਵਉ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਾਵਉ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥
kathehoon n dhaavo saran paavo karunaa mai prabh kar maeiaa |
I shall not wander anywhere else, but take to Your Sanctuary. O God, embodiment of mercy, have mercy on me.

ਸਮਰਥ ਅਗਥ ਅਪਾਰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਨਉ ਏਹੁ ॥
samarath agath apaar niramal sunahu suaamee bino eaehu |
O all-powerful, indescribable, infinite and immaculate Lord Master, listen to this, my prayer.

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥੧॥
kar jorr naanak dhaan maagai janam maran nivaar laehu |1|
With palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing: O Lord, let my cycle of birth and death come to an end. ||1||

har har naam charaavahu rangan aapae hee prabh rang |1|
I am imbued with the color of the Love of the Lord, Har, Har; God Himself has colored me in His Love. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
man mehi raam naamaa jaap |
I chant the Lord's Name within my mind.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਵਸਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa vasahu maerai hiradhai hoe sehaaee aap |1| rehaao |
Bestow Your Mercy, and dwell within my heart; please, become my Helper. ||1||Pause||

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
sun sun naam thumaaraa preetham prabh paekhan kaa chaao |
Listening continually to Your Name, O Beloved God, I yearn to behold You.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਇਹੈ ਮਨੋਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੨॥
dhaeiaa karahu kiram apunae ko eihai manorath suaao |2|
Please, be kind to me - I am just a worm. This is my object and purpose. ||2||

ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਮਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
than dhan thaeraa thoon prabh maeraa hamarai vas kish naahi |
My body and wealth are Yours; You are my God - nothing is in my power.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਣਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਆ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
jio jio raakhehi thio thio rehanaa thaeraa dheeaa khaahi |3|
As You keep me, so do I live; I eat what You give me. ||3||

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਮਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
janam janam kae kilavikh kaattai majan har jan dhoor |
The sins of countless incarnations are washed away, by bathing in the dust of the Lord's humble servants.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਨਾਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੩੯॥
bhaae bhagath bharam bho naasai har naanak sadhaa hajoor |4|4|139|

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧॥

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਸਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

Take pity upon me, and abide within my mind;

ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਲੀਜੈ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I am worthless - please let me grasp hold of the hem of Your robe. ||1||Pause||

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੀੜ ॥

When God comes into my consciousness, what misfortune can strike me?

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੀੜ ॥
har saevak naahee jam peerr |
The Lord's servant does not suffer pain from the Messenger of Death.

ਸਰਬ ਦੂਖ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਸੇ ॥
sarab dhookh har simarath nasae |
All pains are dispelled, when one remembers the Lord in meditation;

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਸੈ ॥੨॥
jaa kai sang sadhaa prabh basai |2|
God abides with him forever. ||2||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
prabh kaa naam man than aadhaar |
The Name of God is the Support of my mind and body.

ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਵਤ ਤਨੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
bisarath naam hovath than shaar |
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the body is reduced to ashes.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਕਾਜ ॥
prabh chith aaeae pooran sabh kaaj |
When God comes into my consciousness, all my affairs are resolved.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਸਭ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜ ॥੩॥
har bisarath sabh kaa muhathaaj |3|
Forgetting the Lord, one becomes subservient to all. ||3||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal sang laagee preeth |
I am in love with the Lotus Feet of the Lord.

ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
bisar gee sabh dhuramath reeth |
I am rid of all evil-minded ways.

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ ॥

The Mantra of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is deep within my mind and body.

In each and every heart, the Lord, the Lord of the forest, is permeating and pervading.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਗੁਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

In the water, on the land, and in the sky, He is pervading but hidden; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is revealed. ||Pause||

ਮਰਤ ਪਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥

In this world, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in the Akaashic Ethers, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the Lord; He has showered me with His Mercy.

ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਨੀ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

He is the unborn Lord God; He is, and shall ever be. Deep within your heart, behold Him, the Destroyer of ego. ||2||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਪੁੜੋ ਇਨਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
janam maran ko eihu jag bapurro ein dhoojai bhagath visaaree jeeo |
This wretched world is caught in birth and death; in the love of duality, it has forgotten devotional worship of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

Meeting the True Guru, the Guru's Teachings are obtained; the faithless cynic loses the game of life. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥

Breaking my bonds, the True Guru has set me free, and I shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again.

ਵਰਤੁ ਤਪਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
varath thapan kar man nehee bheejai |
The mind is not softened by fasting or austerities.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜੈ ॥੧॥
raam naam sar avar n poojai |1|
Nothing else is equal to worship of the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
gur saev manaa har jan sang keejai |
Serve the Guru, O mind, and associate with the humble servants of the Lord.

ਜਮੁ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਡਸਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jam jandhaar johi nehee saakai sarapan ddas n sakai har kaa ras peejai |1| rehaao |
The tyrannical Messenger of Death cannot touch you, and the serpent of Maya cannot sting you, when you drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਵਾਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਜਗੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
vaadh parrai raagee jag bheejai |
The world reads the arguments, and is softened only by music.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
thrai gun bikhiaa janam mareejai |
In the three modes and corruption, they are born and die.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਹੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
raam naam bin dhookh seheejai |2|
Without the Lord's Name, they endure suffering and pain. ||2||

ਚਾੜਸਿ ਪਵਨੁ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
chaarras pavan singhaasan bheejai |
The Yogi draws the breath upwards, and opens the Tenth Gate.

ਨਿਉਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
nioulee karam khatt karam kareejai |
He practices inner cleansing and the six rituals of purification.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
raam naam bin birathaa saas leejai |3|
But without the Lord's Name, the breath he draws is useless. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਧੀਜੈ ॥
anthar panch agan kio dheeraj dheejai |
The fire of the five passions burns within him; how can he be calm?

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਾਦੁ ਲਹੀਜੈ ॥
anthar chor kio saadh leheejai |
The thief is within him; how can he taste the taste?

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੜੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
guramukh hoe kaaeiaa garr leejai |4|
One who becomes Gurmukh conquers the body-fortress. ||4||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਰਮੀਜੈ ॥
anthar mail theerath bharameejai |
With filth within, he wanders around at places of pilgrimage.

ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
man nehee soochaa kiaa soch kareejai |
His mind is not pure, so what is the use of performing ritual cleansings?

ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
kirath paeiaa dhos kaa ko dheejai |5|
He carries the karma of his own past actions; who else can he blame? ||5||

ਅੰਨੁ ਨ ਖਾਹਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
ann n khaahi dhaehee dhukh dheejai |
He does not eat food; he tortures his body.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਜੈ ॥
bin gur giaan thripath nehee theejai |
Without the Guru's wisdom, he is not satisfied.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
manamukh janamai janam mareejai |6|
The self-willed manmukh is born only to die, and be born again. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
sathigur poosh sangath jan keejai |
Go, and ask the True Guru, and associate with the Lord's humble servants.

ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
man har raachai nehee janam mareejai |
Your mind shall merge into the Lord, and you shall not be reincarnated to die again.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
raam naam bin kiaa karam keejai |7|
Without the Lord's Name, what can anyone do? ||7||

ਊਂਦਰ ਦੂੰਦਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥
oodhar dhoondhar paas dhareejai |
Silence the mouse scurrying around within you.

ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
dhur kee saevaa raam raveejai |
Serve the Primal Lord, by chanting the Lord's Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੫॥

I have loaded my pack with the provisions of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸਖਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ॥
maeraa praan sakhaaee sadhaa naal chalai |
The Companion of my breath of life shall always be with me.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

The Lord, Har, Har, is my Best Friend; He is my Beloved Lord King.

ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥
koee aan milaavai maerae praan jeevaaeiaa |
If only someone would come and introduce me to Him, the Rejuvenator of my breath of life.

ਹਉ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਹੇ ਵਹਿ ਚਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

My Friend, the True Guru, has been my Best Friend since I was very young.

ਹਉ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

I cannot survive without seeing Him, O my mother!

Your child makes mistakes again and again, but still, You are pleased with him, O Father of the Universe. ||1||

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਹਮ ਪਾਵਹਗੇ ॥
jo har suaamee thum dhaehu soee ham paavehagae |
Whatever You give me, O my Lord and Master - that is what I receive.

ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਉਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਵਹਗੇ ॥੨॥
mohi dhoojee naahee thour jis pehi ham jaavehagae |2|
There is no other place where I can go. ||2||

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਭਗਤ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਹਿਗੇ ॥
jo har bhaavehi bhagath thinaa har bhaavehigae |
Those devotees who are pleasing to the Lord - the Lord is pleasing to them.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਗੇ ॥੩॥
jothee joth milaae joth ral jaavehagae |3|
Their light merges into the Light; the lights are merged and blended together. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹਿਗੇ ॥
har aapae hoe kirapaal aap liv laavehigae |
The Lord Himself has shown mercy; He lovingly attunes me to Himself.

Aasaa:

ਸੁਤੁ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ॥
suth aparaadh karath hai jaethae |
As many mistakes as the son commits,

ਜਨਨੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਤੇਤੇ ॥੧॥
jananee cheeth n raakhas thaethae |1|
his mother does not hold them against him in her mind. ||1||

ਰਾਮਈਆ ਹਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
raameeaa ho baarik thaeraa |
O Lord, I am Your child.

ਕਾਹੇ ਨ ਖੰਡਸਿ ਅਵਗਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaahae n khanddas avagan maeraa |1| rehaao |
Why not destroy my sins? ||1||Pause||

ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
jae ath krop karae kar dhaaeiaa |
If the son, in anger, runs away,

ਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
thaa bhee cheeth n raakhas maaeiaa |2|
even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. ||2||

ਚਿੰਤ ਭਵਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
chinth bhavan man pariou hamaaraa |
My mind has fallen into the whirlpool of anxiety.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
naam binaa kaisae outharas paaraa |3|
Without the Naam, how can I cross over to the other side? ||3||

ਦੇਹਿ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
dhaehi bimal math sadhaa sareeraa |
Please, bless my body with pure and lasting understanding, Lord;

ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
sehaj sehaj gun ravai kabeeraa |4|3|12|

I have been transformed from a mortal being into an angel, in an instant; the True Guru has taught me this.

ਨਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿ ਸੁਰਗ ਕਉ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਸੋ ਅਵਖਧ ਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
nar thae oupaj surag ko jeethiou so avakhadh mai paaee |1|
Born of human flesh, I have conquered the heavens; such is the medicine I was given. ||1||

ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਧੂਅ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਟੇਕੇ ਨੈਕੁ ਟਿਕਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥
jehaa jehaa dhooa naaradh ttaekae naik ttikaavahu mohi |
Please place me where You placed Dhroo and Naarad, O my Master.

ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਵਿਲੰਬਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਨ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀ ਨਿਜ ਮਤਿ ਏਹ ॥੨॥੩॥

ham ddolath baerree paap bharee hai pavan lagai math jaaee |
My boat is wobbly and unsteady; it is filled with sins. The wind is rising - what if it tips over?

ਸਨਮੁਖ ਸਿਧ ਭੇਟਣ ਕਉ ਆਏ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
sanamukh sidh bhaettan ko aaeae nihacho dhaehi vaddiaaee |1|
As sunmukh, I have turned to the Guru; O my Perfect Master; please be sure to bless me with Your glorious greatness. ||1||

ਗੁਰ ਤਾਰਿ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
gur thaar thaaranehaariaa |
O Guru, my Saving Grace, please carry me across the world-ocean.

ਦੇਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਹਉ ਤੁਝ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhaehi bhagath pooran avinaasee ho thujh ko balihaariaa |1| rehaao |
Bless me with devotion to the perfect, imperishable Lord God; I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||Pause||

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਅਰੁ ਜੰਗਮ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਧੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sidh saadhik jogee ar jangam eaek sidh jinee dhiaaeiaa |
He alone is a Siddha, a seeker, a Yogi, a wandering pilgrim, who meditates on the One Perfect Lord.

ਪਰਸਤ ਪੈਰ ਸਿਝਤ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
parasath pair sijhath thae suaamee akhar jin ko aaeiaa |2|
Touching the feet of the Lord Master, they are emancipated; they come to receive the Word of the Teachings. ||2||

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
jap thap sanjam karam n jaanaa naam japee prabh thaeraa |
I know nothing of charity, meditation, self-discipline or religious rituals; I only chant Your Name, God.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥੬॥
gur paramaesar naanak bhaettiou saachai sabadh nibaeraa |3|6|
Nanak has met the Guru, the Transcendent Lord God; through the True Word of His Shabad, he is set free. ||3||6||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਖਾ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਤਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਵਤਾਵੈ ॥
har ke sakhaa saadh jan neeke tin uoopar haath vataavai ||
The friends of the Lord, the humble, Holy Saints are sublime; the Lord spreads out His protecting hands above them.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੇਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
guramukh saadh se'eee prabh bhaae kar kirapaa aap milaavai ||1||
The Gurmukhs are the Holy Saints, pleasing to God; in His mercy, He blends them with Himself. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
raam mo kau har jan mel man bhaavai ||
O Lord, my mind longs to meet with the humble servants of the Lord.

ਅਮਿਉ ਅਮਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹੈ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amiau amiau har ras hai meeThaa mil sant janaa mukh paavai ||1|| rahaau ||
The sweet, subtle essence of the Lord is immortalizing ambrosia. Meeting the Saints, I drink it in. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਰਾਮ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਮਿਲਿ ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
har ke log raam jan uootam mil uootam padhavee paavai ||
The Lord's people are the most lofty and exalted. Meeting with them, the most exalted status is obtained.

ਹਮ ਹੋਵਤ ਚੇਰੀ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਖੁਸੀ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ham hovat cheree dhaas dhaasan kee meraa Thaakur khusee karaavai ||2||
I am the slave of the slave of the Lord's slaves; my Lord and Master is pleased with me. ||2||

ਸੇਵਕ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਰਿਦ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
sevak jan seveh se vaddabhaagee ridh man tan preet lagaavai ||
The humble servant serves; one who enshrines love for the Lord in his heart, mind and body is very fortunate.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਤਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਕੂੜੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
bin preetee kareh bahu baataa koorr bol koorro fal paavai ||3||
One who talks too much without love, speaks falsely, and obtains only false rewards. ||3||

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਧਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਗੀ ਲੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
mo kau dhaar kripaa jagajeevan dhaate har sant pagee le paavai ||
Take pity on me, O Lord of the World, O Great Giver; let me fall at the feet of the Saints.

ਹਉ ਕਾਟਉ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਾਢਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤੁ ਚੜਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੪॥੩॥
hau kaaTau kaaT baadd sir raakhau jit naanak sant charr aavai ||4||3||
I would cut off my head, and cut it into pieces, O Nanak, and set it down for the Saints to walk upon. ||4||3||

ਜੋ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਕਹਤੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖ ਭਾਗ ਸਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo tumaraa jas kahate guramat tin mukh bhaag sabhaage ||1|| rahaau ||
Those who chant Your Praises, through the Guru's Teachings, have great good fortune recorded upon their foreheads. ||1||Pause||

ਟੂਟੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਫਾਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
TooTe maaeiaa ke bandhan faahe har raam naam liv laage ||
The bonds and shackles of Maya are shattered, by lovingly focusing their minds on the Name of the Lord.

ਹਮਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਹਮ ਬਿਸਮ ਭਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥
hamaraa man mohio gur mohan ham bisam bhe'ee mukh laage ||1||
My mind is enticed by the Guru, the Enticer; beholding Him, I am wonder-struck. ||1||

ਸਗਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੋਈ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕਿੰਚਤ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
sagalee raiN soe'ee andhiaaree gur kinchat kirapaa jaage ||
I slept through the entire dark night of my life, but through the tiniest bit of the Guru's Grace, I have been awakened.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੨॥੧॥
jan naanak ke prabh sundhar suaamee mohi tum sar avar na laage ||2||1||
O Beautiful Lord God, Master of servant Nanak, there is none comparable to You. ||2||1||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:

ਅਉਖੀ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਦੇਈ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
aoukhee gharree n dhaekhan dhaeee apanaa biradh samaalae |
He does not let His devotees see the difficult times; this is His innate nature.

ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
haath dhaee raakhai apanae ko saas saas prathipaalae |1|
Giving His hand, He protects His devotee; with each and every breath, He cherishes him. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
prabh sio laag rehiou maeraa cheeth |
My consciousness remains attached to God.

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aadh anth prabh sadhaa sehaaee dhann hamaaraa meeth | rehaao |
In the beginning, and in the end, God is always my helper and companion; blessed is my friend. ||Pause||

ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਭਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
man bilaas bheae saahib kae acharaj dhaekh baddaaee |
My mind is delighted, gazing upon the marvellous, glorious greatness of the Lord and Master.

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਆਨਦ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੪੬॥
har simar simar aanadh kar naanak prabh pooran paij rakhaaee |2|15|46|
Remembering, remembering the Lord in meditation, Nanak is in ecstasy; God, in His perfection, has protected and preserved his honor. ||2||15||46||

ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕੈਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jis kae sir oopar thoon suaamee so dhukh kaisaa paavai |
When You stand over our heads, O Lord and Master, how can we suffer in pain?

ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥
bol n jaanai maaeiaa madh maathaa maranaa cheeth n aavai |1|
The mortal being does not know how to chant Your Name - he is intoxicated with the wine of Maya, and the thought of death does not even enter his mind. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਾ ਕਾ ਸੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
maerae raam raae thoon santhaa kaa santh thaerae |
O my Sovereign Lord, You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You.

ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਭਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ਨੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
thaerae saevak ko bho kish naahee jam nehee aavai naerae |1| rehaao |
Your servant is not afraid of anything; the Messenger of Death cannot even approach him. ||1||Pause||

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਸਾ ॥
jo thaerai rang raathae suaamee thina kaa janam maran dhukh naasaa |
Those who are attuned to Your Love, O my Lord and Master, are released from the pains of birth and death.

ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ॥੨॥
thaeree bakhas n maettai koee sathigur kaa dhilaasaa |2|
No one can erase Your Blessings; the True Guru has given me this assurance. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਆਰਾਧਹਿ ॥
naam dhiaaein sukh fal paaein aath pehar aaraadhehi |
Those who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, obtain the fruits of peace. Twenty-four hours a day, they worship and adore You.

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੁਸਟ ਲੈ ਸਾਧਹਿ ॥੩॥
thaeree saran thaerai bharavaasai panch dhusatt lai saadhehi |3|
In Your Sanctuary, with Your Support, they subdue the five villains. ||3||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
giaan dhiaan kish karam n jaanaa saar n jaanaa thaeree |
I know nothing about wisdom, meditation and good deeds; I know nothing about Your excellence.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੀ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੫੭॥
sabh thae vaddaa sathigur naanak jin kal raakhee maeree |4|10|57|
Guru Nanak is the greatest of all; He saved my honor in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||4||10||57||
