The final improvisation from our first Harmonic Hike, an outdoor public workshop on the art of overtone singing, held at different locations each month. On these hikes we introduce and build upon participants' understanding of overtone and throat singing. These improvisations are a meditative playspace for people to explore and use this beautiful medium of vocal sound to connect more intimately with nature. This Harmonic Hike took place at the beautiful Cascade Falls, in the Patapsco State Valley Park.

Before this improv we simply agreed to balance how many people are droning on a single note vs sliding. It created some interesting textures when paired with the imagery of ocean waves.

3 - 20 - 17 Sliding Improv

We travelled to Frederick, MD on 8-20-17, to offer vocal meditations at Chua Xa Loi (Vietnamese Buddhist Temple) for the massive Le Vu Lan Festival. This is our first improvisation, held in the temple, as people came to pay respects and offer prayers.

Chua Xa Loi, Improvisation 1

Harmonic Introductions is a small vocal ensemble dedicated to the art of overtone singing. Founded in Spring 2012, we currently hold weekly sessions in Rockville, MD using a variety of vocal exercises to teach members the techniques of overtone singing. By holding both free and structured meditative improvisations, we create a playspace for people to practice and get to know their own voice more intimately. 

One of our goals as a group is to build a community of enthusiasm and appreciation of this style of vocalization within the D.C. metro area, and play a role in the continued growth of a global network!
