This music was composed using Hyperscore software developed at the MIT Media Lab. These pieces were created by young kids with no formal training in music. Through its more intuitive visual annotation system, Hyperscore enables people to bypass the cumbersomeness of traditional music annotation and focus immediately on the creative aspects of composition: shaping melodies, developing larger musical structures, layering and combining compositional elements, harmonization, etc. The music can be transcribed into traditional scores and performed.

With motivation and enlightenment from composer Stacy Garrop and Skaneateles Festival Co-Artistic Director David Ying, a group of middle school students learned how to manipulate sound into coherent music by using Hyperscore technology. The composer visited each school twice, to listen to many works in progress and offered feedback and advice. Presented as part of the 2011 Skaneateles Festival.
