Si una canción o incluso un artista simbolizan el concepto de 17 Bastard Songs of Metal es la que presentamos a continuación, una banda increíble que se perdió en el olvido, un olvido casi de muerte… precisamente debido a la muerte.

De manera dramática el tema de la canción justamente es el de escapar de la vida bajo el mando de la lucidez…

Precedida por una pequeña introducción instrumental llamada Escape, On Lucid Wings es el track #4 del álbum Stormbirds lanzado en 1998 por Evereve una banda Alemana de Gothic Metal fundada en 1993. 

El origen del nombre Evereve está inspirado en el nombre que Bilbo Baggins, personaje del Señor de los Anillos, le da en un poema-canción a la región de Aman, el reino de inmortales al que son llevados aquellos que han luchado junto a los Elfos para que descancen y sanen sus heridas.

Hoy Evereve es prácticamente desconocida, perdida en el olvido, pero en su momento fueron una de las nuevas promesas del Metal Gotico, permeando sus influencias musicales más allá de las barreras obligadas impuestas por los puristas del género, con arreglos increiblemente elaborados e intrincados sin sacrificar la melodía, y haciendo que sus álbumes nunca tuvieran silencio entre sus canciones las cuales unían en una sola continuidad musical a través de pequeñas introducciones instrumentales. Y la voz de Tom Sedotshenko que podía hacerlo todo, guturales death, voces black metal, el canto nasal de las bandas góticas, voces bajas melodramáticas, susurros, con su voz increiblemente fluida y expresiva que a veces incluso cantaba en varios idiomas…, sus dos primeras producciones Seasons de 1996 y Stormbirds del ’98 hicieron parte de la revolución melódica que cambió para siempre la escena del Metal, pero poco después del lanzamiento de Stormbirds la banda decide despedir a Tom Sedotschenko, quién aparentemente tendría algunos problemas, un día sus excompañeros lanzaron un mensaje de alerta en línea pidiendo ayuda para localizar a Tom, temían lo que sucedería en realidad, Tom fue encontrado sin el 1 de mayo de 1999.

Es increible cómo el Rock y el Metal están lleno de tragedia…

La banda nunca se recuperó de la pérdida de su voz líder, y no podemos decir que la industria hizo eco de su aporte ya que cayeron en el olvido con rapidez, sus discos salieron de circulación, solo hoy y poco a poco resucitan gracias a los fanáticos que han publicado su música en Youtube y a los streamers que hace poco relanzaron parte de su discografía de la cual obviamente recomendamos sus dos primeros lanzamientos, Season y Stormbirds.
