Kicking off July on MMD, @lesserlightofficial delivered a power Techno mix!

Lesser Light is an artist and producer from Freising, Germany, residing in Johannesburg, South Africa. His style is harder techno that is sure to make you move! He has released on legend local South African label Black Robin as well as international labels like City of Drums, Evosonic Records to name a few.

Including 3 of his tracks in this mix, two from his up-and-coming release with City of Drums, this mix is on fire!

Bio:

After watching the 1994 Berlin Love Parade LIVE on German TV for the first time, a teenage Ramón Erasmus was hooked on electronic music and was able to develop his DJ skills at his local youth centre, where he started playing Vinyl and was soon able to showcase his talent at several private underground events and as a resident DJ at Treibhaus (Meilenhofen/DE) under the moniker Ramón Cadena. His association with the Teknosushi label (under Prison Recordings) began in 2001 as resident at the notorious Club Cyber (Oberhaindlfing/DE), where he also became a label DJ and studio assistant. As a Teknosushi label DJ, he found himself being booked by numerous Clubs in Germany, such as the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Alcatraz & Prison Club (Landau a.d. Isar) and showcasing his talent at various Techno festivals and events in Germany, Austria, Argentina, Romania, Russia and South Africa.

Since the 1994 Berlin Love Parade laid the cornerstone to his DJ career, his biggest and most memorable DJ gig was the Berlin Love Parade 2002 and 2003, where he had the honour to play on the Teknosushi Lovefloat in front of nearly 1 million ravers from around the world. Unfortunately, 2006 saw the end of the Teknosushi residency at Club Cyber and a few years later, ultimately also the end of the Teknosushi label, bringing about a new phase in Ramón’s career as he created the PadMode moniker. After years of solely DJing, he then decided to learn to produce his own music, which landed him his first remixes on the Munich based label City Of Drums. In early 2018 he started his current project called 'Lesser Light' which focuses on the deeper, and more raw side of Techno with hypnotic rhythms and murky textures, which has landed him releases on the Munich based label City of Drums and the South African label Black Robin with many more to follow…

Ahead of the release of Cook Strummer's Berlin Gets Physical in September comes the first of two EPs from it. 

Berlin-based Cacao Records bosses and brotherly duo KEENE are behind the opening track. They are regulars on labels like Connected and have a deep and spiritual house sound. That is the case here with the dynamic drums and chunky bass of 'Ecoute' which comes with Afro vocals and loose, organic percussion. It's a fantastically atmospheric affair followed by a collaboration between two more Berlin based artists Los Cabra & Manuel Sahagun. 

They mix organic rhythms and electronic tension on labels like Bar 25 Music and Stil Vor Talent. Here, their 'Italian Groove' is a crisp tech house offering with snappy snares and tight drums. Once they have you locked in, a rugged bass synth signals take off while ever more lush and cosmic synths colour the airwaves. It's an expansive and high energy track to ignite any DJ set. 

This superb EP is a great taster of the full compilation to come.

An EP straight from Johannesburg's distinct underground music culture. Troyder presents "Time Suspension", filled with sonic purity that resonates with deep and dubby textures. Sand Isle and Laminin Music have both delivered a stellar remix package which interprets the original in two stylish spectrums respectively.

Tebogo Methola, or most commonly known with his stage name as "Harry Solomon", was born and raised in the buzzy township, Alexandra in 1992, he always had a passion for music, with the likes of jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and traditional South African music known as "Maskhandi". His passion for house music grew when his mentor, James Mc, taught him how to play turntables at the age of 12, he started collecting compilations and records during his secondary schooling, then James Mc introduced him to producing music on his last year of high school. Since then he grew and eventually he and his mentor began a duo called the House Raiders, then that was when he was introduced to the hectic parties and events and his skills grew and grew. That's when Harry saw an opportunity to grow himself thoroughly, he began his own record label, Microscopiq Soundz, to help up and coming artists grow within their surroundings and improve on their musical talents, he has signed artists including Pebetsi, Andy Rothen, the soulful duo Blue Soul, Rapid Mollusk and tribal heads Stone Raiders. The future of dance and house music begins now.
