As one of Australia's most successful international exports, creative cauldron Keiynan Lonsdale is that rare combination many spend lifetimes aspiring to: an in-demand actor, gifted musician and prolific dancer, Lonsdale is truly the epitome of the fabled 'triple threat’ while Australian artist Harry Nathan (known for his contemporary take on lo-fi house and disco) is a producer, singer, songwriter and DJ by design. His recent releases on tastemaker labels Majestic Casual and Kitsuné Musique ooze dancefloor-sensibility and sophistication and recent refix of Keiynan Lonsdale’s “Rhythm & Music” is no exception.

Porsche Limousine” evolved from a demo I made for my next EP with the working title “Only One”, 
Boonie added the car sounds and jacked up the production elements, his wacky ideas inspire me – unlike most twins we don’t always see ‘eye to eye’ but when it comes to music, we’re interconnected.

At the heels of their collaborative single “Porsche Limousine”, the brothers continue surveying themes of vehicles in motion by synthesizing the humbled surroundings of a “Bus Stop.”

Moving to the pace of a monochromatic beat, this lounge-house remedy draws listeners in with a soft intro before evolving into a jazzy, full-bodied composition. Nuanced with synthwave accents cut by talkbox vocals, “Bus Stop” is a future-forward listen that keeps nostalgia in its peripheral.

I was blessed to be able to connect with the land and through my friends deepen my knowledge of our Indigenous Australian culture. Hidden amongst the E.P. are recordings of birds and wildlife, live didgeridoo, and conversations with my friends. I wanted to keep the lyrics sparse and poignant, to allow the sonic landscape to tell most of the story"

I had just broken up with the girl this EP is about, I was in tears driving home in the rain when the song came to me. When you love someone dearly and they are a huge part of your life, but you know that you must part ways, it’s heartbreaking. I got home and recorded the song straight away, still weeping.

I’m a hopeless romantic, which is why I’m usually hesitant to enter into relationships; I have learnt to guard my heart as I tend to go all in, usually to my own detriment, neglecting my own needs in order to fully serve my partner.

Ryan walks in to my studio one day and starts talking into the mic, not realising I was recording. The first part of this recording ended up in the outro of ‘Fool For Your Love’, from my first EP. It landed perfectly in that spot. 
“you” continued talking, as if hosting a fictional radio show, when an imaginary Harriet Tubman decided to join us. I genuinely had no idea who Harriet Tubman was, asking ‘Who’s Harry Tubman?’

An hour later we were in our pyjamas sitting on Ryan’s living room floor, building the song on my laptop.

This is the fourth track on the Sweet Release EP and is a self-reinterpretation of my 2019 single ‘To the Limit’. I took the acapella and created a deep house, late night groover.. Hence the 'Late Night Mix. All the best.

The Sweet Release EP is a loungey deep/disco house project. I always loved house music growing up, and was a big fan of labels like Defected, Nervous and Ed Banger. I would record live DJ mixes of fresh house cuts I’d discovered and give the cd’s to my mates. These days most house music is produced and mixed for functionality; to work on a dance floor. I wanted to create an EP that was a more lo-fi, laid back lounge version of deep and disco house.

I recorded the lyrics into a 1984 SONY M-10 microcassette recorder. I wasn’t really sure what I was singing, I was just jamming and mumbling, stream of consciousness kind of thing. When entering this kind of trance, my lyrics tend to reflect unsurfaced emotions, and it wasn’t until after I had finished recording that I realised the song was about people that are fake, putting up a façade trying to impress all the time.

The Sydney based best friends delve into their diverse yet nostalgic sound pallet to co-create this unrequited love story. 

‘On Your Mind” is about both the agony & coming to terms of the ending of a turbulent relationship. The haunting vocals are reminiscent of a false yet soothing hope to add to the begging question ‘Am I on your mind?’

I wrote this song from the perspective of one of my best friends, who was going through a tricky break up. Matters of the heart are never easy, we’ve all been in that situation where a once loving relationship nears its fatal end. We scramble for clarity in the abyss as our world shifts into the emotional unknown.

“This song is a romanticized daydream about a girl who moved in across the hall. I was living in Los Angeles and I had just picked up a 1982 MT-45 Casiotone keyboard. I fell in love with the sound of it and it inspired me to write the song quite quickly.”

“The majority of the drums come from Roland CR-78 and Roland 505 drum machines. Run through a series of guitar pedals, the Casio keyboard’s signal chain is visible in the song’s artwork; a photo I took on my 1982 Canon AE-1 film camera” – Harry Nathan
