Hailing from Portsmouth, Harvey has already seen a remarkable ascent even before releasing music officially - being tipped and playlisted by BT Sport and playing The Isle of Wight Festival earlier this month.
Today sees him release his highly anticipated debut single, the instantly definitive 'Caroline'. With shades of Sam Fender, Johnny Marr and The Black Keys whilst still remaining entirely in his own lane, Dodgson’s debut is a fierce statement of intent from the southerner.
'Caroline' is the first taste of huge things to come from Dodgson over the next year, and by bringing together raw lyrical work with driving instrumentation, effortlessly showcases why the 19 year old is onto such big things.
Harvey has also announced a London show to mark the debut release and showcase the new material live. Booked for the inaugural Undercurrent night at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington on 20th October he'll be joining fellow South Coast band on the rise, FLOWVERS.

Brimming with youthful exuberance, it marries the most infectious elements of The Libertines, Vampire Weekend, Tom Grennan and Ten Tonnes, weaving assured guitar riffs with punchy percussion throughout its almost 3 minutes.

Speaking about the song Harvey says, “‘For The Love Of It’ is a statement about how music should be created and played … for the love of it. Not following a trend, being able to connect with others, not forcing the art for the primary motive of money. The production portrays this. Playful melodies, groups of chanting teens, rough around the edges as a whole - a song to shout out together with your mates.  My painting of why I make music for the love of it.’’

The new single also comes after recently being snapped up by Paradigm booking agency for live shows. Now represented by Alex Hardee (Liam Gallagher, Sia, Clean Bandit), Harvey will play a headline show in London on 17th March at the prestigious Notting Hill Arts Club.

Harvey Jay Dodgson started playing the guitar at the age of 7 and by 9 years of age had written his first piece of music. His early inspiration came after being introduced by older brother Neil to the music of Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and the free-flowing vocal melodies of Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. He says, "It instantly opened my eyes (or should I say ‘ears’) to a completely different sound of music." It was discovering the jazz-influenced artists, King Krule and Cosmo Pyke who inspired him to experiment further and he was soon ready to create his own music. 

 Tipped by BT TV and Scotts Menswear as ‘One to Watch 2021’ He has recently performed at the IOW Festival. He will be releasing his debut fully produced EP in 2022.

Oxygen EP Out Now

A collection of tracks written in the singer-songwriter's mid to late teens showcasing deft musicianship way beyond his years, it's an appropriate introduction to Harvey and his exciting trajectory so far. The EP's title track, also released today, is a colossal and chasmic song that exhibits Harvey's natural diversity in both vocal range and soundscapes as the track builds from a brooding ode to a mammoth gospel choir induced crescendo.

Explaining the title track in more detail Harvey says, "With big sub basses, gospel backing vocals, strings and a huge final chorus, ‘Oxygen’ wraps up “chapter one” of my released songs written from the ages 15 to 18. A song to put you in the zone. Breathe with me and connect with my emotion as you listen to the song I have been anticipating for the longest, 'Oxygen'."

The body of work recorded with Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Anteros) at RYP Studios also features previous single 'For The Love Of It'. Having made an undeniable impact with his debut EP ‘Oxygen’ last April, which saw Harvey Jay Dodgson’s grainy vocals turn heads across national radio, TV and press, the 20-year-old alt-indie artist releases his latest single, ‘You Belong To Me’ out July 15th. 
Stripping back his earlier incarnation of cavernous, guitar-laden indie, ‘You Belong To Me’ allows Dodgson to really showcase what makes his brand of indie so unique - his whiskey soaked vocals. With just Harvey and his acoustic guitar, the track is a love story, albeit an unconventional one, as he candidly opens up about his personal journey with and love for music. With anthemic potential, ‘You Belong To Me’ is an exciting first instalment and firm foundation for Dodgson’s EP set for release later this year. 
In Harvey Jay Dodgson own words, he explains; 
“’You Belong To Me' is my ode to music. Originally written in an afternoon before a gig in an attempt to break up the set towards the end, it captivated the audience with its acoustic vibe, and its simplicity makes it very easy to sing along to. I loved how this song I wrote about my feelings towards music made people interact with music itself, and therefore I decided to record and release it for people who feel the same way. Music has been a part of my life from the very beginning, so thank you music - you belong to me.” 
In a single-take, one-shot video, the sincerity of Dodgson’s emotive narrative comes to life in its humblest form as he removes all externalities and sits alone in a field with just himself, his guitar and music - watch here. 
The year so far has seen Harvey has play The Great Escape Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and High Tide Festival, with further festival appearances lined up including 110 Above Festival, Victorious Festival and Live At Leeds. Driven by a punchy drum groove, a looping Guitar and later met by a hypnotic guitar melody, ‘Marilyn Rose’ is truly infectious. Dodgson brings an effortlessly smooth vocal performance with his signature rasp adding heaps of attitude and character to this fiery release.


Speaking on the track, Harvey explains; “Escapism is the distraction.  Music is the escape.  Marilyn Rose is the fantasy which binds them together.  Personified as a woman of the imagination, Marilyn Rose encompasses the paths of evasion as distorted guitars, floating melodies and gospel backing vocals take you with her on a journey from writers block to a final piece.  Seek distraction, find relief.  Always on her toes, ready to explore, exploiting the art of storytelling in search of any inspiration ... or maybe just to create a spark in an everyday life ...  

Marilyn Rose was a song I wrote because I was lost on what to write.  A lack of inspiration and ideas?  Write a song about someone who goes and finds inspiration and ideas for you.  Produced with Michael Smith at RYP Recordings, the goal was to portray a music journey by setting a dreamy ambience, driving it with guitars, but leaving a sinister undertone emerging from beneath.

Tell me. Show me. Give me a sign. From the deep depths of frustration and angst, sang with animosity and fuelled with indignation, my latest track sonically portrays the repetitive biting of my struggle.  Through the pain and the burden, give me a sign that pushes me past it.  
Taking on the track with a new perspective, producer Michael Smith (RYP Recordings) forges together a wall of destructive guitars, heavily layered vocals and a thread of electronic madness to create a hugely powerful new record.  Used predominantly as the set-opener, Give Me A Sign will aid the release of your pent-up catharsis.

Possessing one of the most distinctive vocals in music right now, Harvey Jay Dodgson is undeniably one of the most standout talents of 2023.

Only a matter of months before his debut appearance at the UK’s most iconic music festival, Glastonbury, Portsmouth export Harvey Jay Dodgson releases his EP “Alligator”, this May 5th 2023.

The “Alligator” EP is a humble showcase of Dodgson’s unfiltered talent. Raw, frictious vocals drive each of its 4 tracks, conjoining them with ferocious and narratives - from self-acceptance to just having a good time. The adolescent trail of thought showcased in this project is as unpredictably moving as its title, keeping its listener eagerly anticipating Dodgson’s next move.


Leading the charge, the title track of the EP, “Alligator”, the last instalment and closer on this multi Radio One supported EP release provides a high-energy entrance into the project. As with every Dodgson track, if the lure of his whisky-soaked vocals aren’t enough, there is the enticement of an irresistible hook that not only grabs but reminds why there is still a very relevant home for indie-rock tracks like this in the current soundscape.  

Speaking on the track, Harvey explains; “Can anybody hear me? As the alligator swims the darkest rivers of the mind, the track’s searing melodies of self-acceptance meander through the overdriven breakbeat drums and their cries for help. Produced raw and bold by Damon Minchella and Tom Manning; sprinkled with tension-building backing vocals recorded with Michael Smith, Alligator is the title track of my second EP, concluding chapter two of my project.  It’s eerie, it’s aggressive - let it swim your mind.”
























2022 saw many accolades added to Dodgson’s name. Having won the affections of  Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Clash Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, Notion, Radio X’s John Kennedy and BBC Introducing. Additionally, receiving syncs on some of the most recognisable, global shows including Love Island and one of Netflix’s most watched films ‘Purple Hearts’. Backed by Liam Gallagher’s agent, Alex Hardee, Dodgson played The Great Escape Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Live At Leeds, 110 Above Festival and Victorious Festival. 

The “Alligator” EP is a confident first move into 2023 and his performance at Glastonbury later this year. With another full year of releases from his forthcoming all new album in production and live shows, there is no doubt that Harvey Jay Dodgson will be a frequently occurring name in ‘Ones To Watch’ predictions for next year.
