Hobie, a Dutch DJ/producer, delved into hard dance music in the early 2000s and has remained dedicated ever since. His journey through various mixing styles culminated in his embrace of hardcore in 2020, leading him to craft his own tracks.

Drawing from an eclectic mix of influences spanning hardcore, terror, and neuro drum & bass, Høbie has developed a signature style marked by intricate sound design, rhythmic percussions, distorted kicks, and ear-tearing screeches. „After lockdown, there was a big revival of the hardcore scene in Ghent. Influenced by that, I shifted more towards tekno, tribe, jungle… but also more high energy, millennial tracks. I started digging deeper into new sounds and genres, trying to let them work together in a mix.
 
The biggest joy I find in dj’ing is mixing totally different tracks that aren’t supposed to match. It creates an element of surprise, and it can make 2 tracks sound way better. I love digging trough SoundCloud for hours just to find one track that is out of this world. I think track selection is 70% of the job. It’s the most important aspect of dj’ing, a dj can be technically flawless but it doesn’t make a good set. 

I try to mix basic with a strong focus on phrasing and EQ. 
When the moment feels right, I like to chop, for example to tease a track before mixing it in. Using hotcues, and loops to skip trough the best parts of a track, so I can mix faster. I really believe mixing fast can help to connect with the audience.

Artists who can find the balance between playing for the audience, and playing their own style inspire me the most. My biggest inspiration still is I Hate Models, he can play so many different sounds in a set without losing consistency.“
