Earlier this year, my dear friends, super-talented musicians & producers Tyler Wood and Therese Workman, released the debut EP for their crazy retro-future-pop duo "Oh My Goodness". They decided to invite a few electronic musicians to remix various songs from the EP. I was honored to be one of them.

Today, the remix EP is out, and my track is the first of 9 eclectic re-interpretations of their (oh my) supreme goodness.  I made the remix entirely out of sounds from <a href="http://ohmygoodnessmusic.com/track/everything-all" target="_blank">the original song</a>.

This one felt really special, reflecting on the journey of finding myself, my family and so much love. Once upon a time, I stumbled upon a curious trap door that lead me down a deep, dark rabbit hole, and out another side was a world I could have never dreamed of. I cried for the first time ever during a set, feeling this wild silly dream actually coming true.

A year ago I promised myself that I would put a track that I made into a set, and to finish that track with my childhood best friend - a song about the humor and wonder of our youth. We've been through so much together, experiencing immense grief and deeply challenging moments. We remind each other that we still have access to that child-like joy, if we seek it out.

To everyone who's supported me along the way, given me an opportunity to play, told me what their experience of my sets were. THANK YOU.

I put track lists with timestamps on each set I release because we have the ability to connect with artists from all over the globe, to heal trauma, to laugh, to share their insights and magic. Life will be hard, but it can be a little less hard when we give each other the benefit of the doubt, apologize when necessary, and take a deep breath when something hard is happening.

Silly Dreams

This mix is the artist, Dynoman's interpretation of “dhoop”, which is the Urdu word for sunlight. He crafted this mix to give the listener a lens into this interpretation, using heaters and bangers cross-genre that help him express this feeling.

REVORIZING

This is my adaptation of a piece featuring maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian on vocals, that appears on his album titled "Ghoghaye Eshghbazan". That album, and that piece specifically were the theme music to my first few months in the U.S. as an early-twenties International student, and has held a special place in my heart ever since. This is my homage to the piece, the album and maestro himself. Poetry by Saadi of Shiraz.

Dakhabrakha - Konoplya On Trap

Since 2012, Hatim Belyamani – aka HAT – unites artists in an ever-evolving audio-visual dance between traditional music and digital remix art. In his one-of-a-kind live show, HAT is as an orchestra conductor from the future, beaming traditional musicians from the four corners of the world onto a big screen, and shaping them harmoniously into new electro beats. 

Growing up in Morocco, surrounded by sounds of the country’s Arabic, Amazigh, and Sub-Saharan African origins, Hatim was an award-winning classical pianist and guitarist before finding his voice in electronic music. In 2012, inspired to celebrate his roots, Hatim founded Remix ←→ Culture, a non-profit organization that bridges cultural divides through the transformative power of music, film, and remix. Hatim and his team traverse the globe, capturing the sights and sounds of underrepresented musical traditions, which they share for free online under a Creative Commons license. HAT’s performances are a live remixing of these videos, seamlessly blending the traditional with the experimental –  acoustic trance with electronic dance – connecting his audiences to distant cultures in a unique audio-visual journey.

HAT has performed at various festivals and venues around the world, including the Lincoln Center in NY, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, WOMEX in Spain, and Rec Beat in Brazil.

The project has received increasing acclaim since its inception, in countless print, TV, radio, and online media outlets.

Hatim is now shifting his attention to the diverse and rich musical heritage of various immigrant communities in NY.  A series of projects with these communities is in the works, notably one in collaboration with the world-class filmmaker Vincent Moon, which premiered in NYC in October 2018.
