Celebrating 10 years of existence with a statement, Berlin’s GEGEN is releasing a solid 3-part compilation, grounding their work of the past decade into the newly founded label’s sonic aesthetic by showcasing the artists that have been at the heart of the infamous party series. 

Listen to the premiere of Spanish producer P.E.A.R.L's spacey cut "Perfume Of Sweat" from the upcoming compilation now.

This VA is a bundle of 30 tracks hailing from the true ride-or-die residents at the core of the project to the headliners whose support have propelled the collective from day one as well as up-and-coming artists that Gegen takes to heart to support.

Curated with Gegen's love for techno’s history of diversity in mind, this release travels through different subgenres and BPM and takes listeners on a journey from classic techno to industrial, hardcore to breakbeat, and deconstructed to acid. 

The all-star lineup features techno legends such as Ellen Allien and Paula Temple. The compilation is built on a sonic narrative arc, with releases growing harder, faster and harsher, simulating a proper Gegen night. Releasing the 3 parts every two weeks, Gegen invites listeners on a month-long beautiful musical journey to experience the Gegen universe.

Initially titled Chris Liebing Records until 2010, then Create Learn Realize until the break, and now Create Learn Repeat, CLR reemerged in the techno underground with releases from Liebing himself, followed by newcomer Frankie Bromley and upstarts Hertz Collision & Gene Richards Jr.

The industrial ‘Are You Sure’ continues, featuring cavernous dub hits and hammering kickdrums, before the slicing synths in ‘Dice’ echo relentlessly throughout its clever arrangement. Following a remix appearance of Chris Liebing on Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD imprint last year, the pair now team up on Liebing’s celebrated CLR imprint for ‘I Will Be A Devil Until I Am An Angel’ this November.

First up, ‘Watch Me Choose You’ launches with a clap-heavy groove shot through with bleeps and squelches, a subtle serpentine acid-line woven among its sturdy drums. It’s a high-intensity, peak-time offering followed by ‘When You Are Near’, another dancefloor bomb which continues with additional bursts of acid sprayed on top of its cavernous kick drums before dropping into a mind-melting frenzy at the halfway mark.

"Since I met Nicole many, many years ago, we've had an amazing connection, we’ve played quite a few really amazing back-to-back sets as well as remixed each other, which we were always really happy with. It was only a matter of time until we’d do a joint original release, and here it is! Klint starts his ‘Immersive Culture’ EP on Chris Liebing’s CLR with ‘Tomahawk’. Raw, distinctive sonics and chunky drums make for a dancefloor trip followed by the stomping peaks of ‘Forces’, where the RSPX and Planet Rhythm artist exploits a chopped-up vocal sample, keeping the energy high. 

Klint then continues with ‘All In’, a late-night hypnotic roller, before the title track ‘Immersive Culture’ closes down affairs via quality spoken vocal work and tumbling sequence stabs. This first EP of the year packs a punch and sets a precedent for the heady, multi-purpose techno we can expect from CLR in 2024.

The hypnotic ‘Ping Pong Ball Gag’ sees bbbbbb recors’ Bjarki utilise squirming, bubbly percussion, quirky bleeps, and a dark vocal. It’s loopy, full of character, and marks the Icelandic artist’s debut on Chris Liebing’s CLR, following previous releases on NIX, Mute, and his own bbbbbb, a visually impressive home for underground, off-kilter techno.

Bjarki’s ‘Ping Pong Ball Gag’, initially produced in 2014 and subsequently hammered on the dancefloor by Chris Liebing until today, is an occasion which calls for a remix from Liebing himself, turning the intense droning rhythm of the original into a real warehouse stomper by infusing it with 909 claps and switching up its whirring percussion, making for a fantastic combination of elements while embracing the unpredictability of the original.

Founded by influential techno lynchpin Chris Liebing in 1999 and reemerging in 2021 after a five-year hiatus, Create Learn Repeat (CLR) has played host to a range of artists like DEAS, Shlomi Aber, Drumcell, Truncate and more, with a focus on developing newer acts in the scene such as B. Riley, The Southern, and Klint. The imprint now adds Bjarki to its roster with a curveball, quality release we didn’t know we needed but which should be a staple in any artist’s library.

"New reference that shows four tracks meticulously curated for the club to give continuity to our Abstract Weapons series this year. From Serbia, Rèdacs arrives with "Mekanika" demonstrating its purely analogue sound where he uses a contagious line of modular synth and subtle textures. Åre:gone returns to the label with "Ya no es tan rojo" a track of very complex and syncopated rhythms as we are accustomed, and also, adding an attractive jam of saturated hats. In the third place, after his debut on the platform with an album of 12 original cuts, Numbers And Parameters delights us with "Social functions" a more dense and atmospheric track while dynamic and enveloping in which he excels a masterfully programmed sequence and an energetic section of hi hats. Finally we have Hioll back with "Bad behavior" showing a powerful kick and devastating percussions that adhere very well to the main lead making it a highly effective tool for peak hours."
