Ricardo takes the track “Royal” by storm and delivers one of his most psychedelic works to date. Using Ben Abarbanel’s other worldly Tenor and Baritone Sax parts and combining them with a sonic Pallet found in other dimensions that only an artist like Villalobos has access to.

Haunt015 - Fábel/Mr.Cotton - 03 REM (Mr.Cotton's Point of view)Snip

Call it a Jekyll-Hyde syndrome. London-based artist Fábel makes his highly anticipated return to Haunt with a five-track EP entitled Fábel vs Mr. Cotton, a dialogue between his two musical personalities. While the familiar soft, soulful Fábel essence remains present in the opening tracks’ twinkling melodies, hollow voices, and languid jazzy instrumentals, the producer’s darker side takes over by “Mr. Cotton’s Point of View.” Spectral dub infusions and doses of glitch begin to creep in, erupting in full force in the last track, “Massive Disruption.” The record’s narrative is a conversation, with the two sounds both clashing and confirming in equal measure.

Inspired by his new-found comfort with a so-called two-voice project, Fábel takes dark experimentation head on with this release. His background as a producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist plays in his favour as he treads the boundaries between jazz, IDM, glitch, dub, and electronica.

A project that debuted under Shannon's own Haunt Music in 2012 with Ghost Story, their second album, Swimming in the Shadows is a deeper, more experimental piece that focuses on change, memory, and movement. 

Completed over the course of four years, Shadows was written and recorded in Berlin, with Shannon behind production and sound design, and Nishimoto on guitar. Influenced by the turning of leaves and lifeís inevitable transformations, Shadows swelters with feelings of deep unrest and sounds heavy with emotion. 

Opening numbers ìPaper Cutsî and ìFalling in Deepî set the pace with dreamy, looping melodies and Parisian singer Ilhem Khodjaís hazy vocals. The momentum builds with darker, driving grooves and mutating synths ó Cobblestone Jazzís Danuel Tate, on the Rhodes, Vocoder and Moog Bass, features on the albumís stand out ìI Felt That It Was True.î The album moves into more melancholy territory with ìThe Breeze Through The Floorî and the closing piece ìPaper Ghostî as moments of distortion and deranged off-key tones melt back into the duoís familiar pretty, underwater-like sounds.

Falling In Deep

I wanted to put together a sampler of what the sound of my label Haunt Music is up to now, and where we’ve been.  The first section features some unreleased material touching a more jam analog synth funk sound from The Mole, Fabel and Myself.  Then I progress into some deep ambient jazz territory showcasing the sound of the latest Blue Fields album and then ramping up into some deep minimal house and finally into the jazzy swing party side of the label.  Ending things off with Haunt music's masterpiece from Horror inc. entitled “Dans La Nuit”  Haunt Music's catalogue has a broad spectrum but I think it’s translated well into this 90 min mix.

Her Everything

Fábel returns to the Haunt Music stage with his third, most shadowy and lush long player. Like a collection of autumn leaves blowing in the wind “The Wick” inspires introspective thought and reflection, yet remains playful and innocent at times.

In a journey over twelve tracks, Fábel effortlessly paints his sonic pictures with a cunning use of shadow and synthetic atmosphere, brushed with organic percussion and a background layer of deeply rooted bass.

His unbreakable spirit shines through again with an outstanding collection of music, wielding a timeless sonic palette that leaves the listener spell bound.

The Wick

01 Six By Eight Snip

Meander. Wander. Such are the starry eyed adjectives that Berlin’s David Koch, alias DeWalta, has chosen to ascribe to his label and debut album respectively. Both terms conjure images of the solitary medieval bard, enthralling townsfolk with rapturous music, tales of derring-do, and breaking the heart of a young damsel or two before heading on his merry way with a few new tales to tell. Our young David’s wandering ways have taken him from conservatory jazz studies at the Hans Eissler Music College to the beating heart of Berlin’s underground techno and house scene in only a few short years. And as anyone who has had the privilege of being on the dance floor during one of his smooth and sexy DJ sets can attest, hearts have most definitely been broken. Having received consistent praise from tastemakers both at home and abroad for his jazz infused single productions over the last several years, he now brings the full breadth of his experiences to bear on this his first long player for Haunt Music. 
Album opener The Eagle was composed during a trip to the west coast of Canada, and it’s wide floating synth filigrees and bedrock drums and bass conjure the area’s splendid geographical landscape deftly. Keep On, originally released on his own Meander label makes a welcome return appearance with its dusty grooves and sultry vocals from Judith Ahrends. The aptly named Waltfunk turns down the tempo and cranks up the funk with a monster Moog bassline and deft nods to Prince and the Zapp Band. The Peregrine meanwhile sees a big band recording David received as a gift mulched and mangled into a righteous half time swing before kicking into high gear alongside mind bending analog modular squiggle. Right Here sees David teaming up with former classmate and longtime friend Achim Hilgert on bass for a thicker than pea soup jazz work out before an epic Rhodes solo sends things heavenward in the song’s final moments. Pace sets its sights far away from Berlin’s metronomic pulse to a dusty vinyl filled basement somewhere in Los Angeles, a weeded out slice of darkest funk perfect for the head knod set. Barksdale (Movin On) meanwhile takes the night train to NYC, with Canadian MC Joga taking a page straight out of the Native Tongues playbook to create what is perhaps the album’s most surprising and celebratory moments. Our train comes to a stop deep in the heart of Detroit for album closers The Hawk and Machine Soul, 2 slices of filthier than dirt jazzy house psychedelia sure to appeal to fans of the motor city’s favored sons. 
An astonishingly diverse debut, and a great sign of things to come from DeWalta and Haunt Music.
