Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I'd say I'm naturally curious and very much a people person. Although, I tend to spread myself thin at times when it comes to socializing haha.

Q. How long have you been a part of the D.C. music scene?
A. I've been part of the D.C. music community the last two years. I'd say these last two years have been the most rewarding. The community here is very open and supportive of each other. You can go to any party or event during the week /weekends and see someone you know. It feels like a big family.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. When I was putting together this mix, I really sat down and reflected on what the NYC ecosystem meant to me as a whole. I reflected on those years going back and forth between small town Alabama, Newark, Harlem, and the Bronx and what those places looked and felt like while I was growing up. I not only reflected on moments of happiness but also on moments of sadness as well. I wanted to take the listener through these emotions and have them take a peek into how I see the city as an outsider but also as a native.

Shannen SP is a London-based DJ, artist, vocalist, curator and founding member of the Nine Nights collective. She has worked with Hyperdub, and is also a resident and A&R at NTS Radio.

Unsound Podcast 75 is a recording of her late-night set at Unsound this year, largely exploring the South African Amapiano genre, with many tracks from the 'Amapiano Now' compilation she co-curated for NTS Records earlier this year.

She says: "It was amazing to see people react to a sound that some of them may not have been familiar with yet. I played the darker, minimal side of the genre, stripped-back vocals, and more experimental. I first heard Amapiano from my cousins in Joburg a few years ago and became obsessed with the sound so seeing it go off in Krakow and at a festival I love was special for sure. Playing after Menzi's incredible gqom was an honor."

Artist: Bored Lord
Name: Daria Lourd
Pronouns: she/her/hers

The new year starts with a mix by one of my favourite artists and producers Daria Lourd aka Bored Lord. She has been on my radar for her relentless and beautifully crafted mixes and edits for about 3 years and I am happy that Daria is the first artist in 2022 to contribute to the mix series. Apart from being a glamorous figure and well renowned DJ in the night clubs of NYC, San Francisco, LA, her hometown Oakland and beyond, Daria started self-releasing her own productions and edits back in 2018. She uses her vast influences spanning several decades of music and genres to produce her own tracks and combines them with samples from TV series, movies, pop songs and rave anthems but also collaborated with producer, singer and performance artist IDHAZ for her EP They Never Taught Us To. Daria’s first production outside of her own bandcamp, The Last Illusion EP, came out in September 2021 on Eris Drew’s and Octo Octa’s T4T LUV NRG. It was the first release that was not produced by either one of the co-founders of the label. Her motivation for this expansive creative output comes from keeping the tradition and craft of DJing and edits alive, giving people something to dance to and allowing room for whatever process might come out of that but also utilizing her craft for her own expression and world building. Love this! 
Bored Lord is working on a full length album and several collaborational EPs with friends at the moment, so keep your eyes and ears open.
