In the year 1991 when the techno development was becoming a monster wave there was one record on R&S Records which became a game changer in my life.

I´m writing about "Energy flash" by a young producer from Brooklyn called Joey Beltram! I still get goose bumps when I even think about the night when I heard the track for the first time ever at Mayday in Berlin Weissensee.

Everybody was there, from Sven Väth to Frank de Wulf, from Speedy J to The Hypnotist (god bless you, Caspar). So you can imagine how happy I am now that Joey remixed "The overture" and yesss, again he made a monster tune. Thanx to Christian Smith for realizing this project...

Buenos Aires producer Adrian Hour returns to Coyu's Suara Music with the twelfth edition of the label's 'Techno Tools' series this May. To date the Argentinian has appeared numerous times in the series alongside artists like Boris and Jewel Kid, such his quality that he's welcomed back into the fold with open arms and he brings with him four standout club-oriented weapons.

'Avalon' is a funk-fill bomb with an all-consuming low end element, while 'Happening' is a darker, moodier affair surrounded with an eery, tense atmosphere. As for 'Connected', it's a dreary and hypnotic production. 'Markers' closes out the release with a relentless energy and a awesome rise to the climax. The release, which follows up a dynamite EP on Toolroom Trax and a remix opportunity on German imprint SNOE, marks another big step in the development of Hour, who's grown from an unknown youngster to a mainstay in the techno scene. After Architectural’s Heaven Can Wait EP from earlier this year, North Lake here supplies three techno gems on this 12” for Maceo Plex’s Ellum, following up a string of hit releases with Sweatshop, Phonica, Permanent Vacation and others. Each track displays North Lake’s expert craft in a different way. Opening up is ‘Shimmer Land’, who’s haunting melodies and textures grow and grow throughout the track, over an undeniably infectious, tightly swung drum groove. Next up is ‘Solid Metal Funk’, which immediately lives up to its name with percussive stabs of metallic FM synthesis. These stabs form a rhythmic and melodic backbone for the track, dancing around over five minutes while simple drums hold this effortlessly danceable composition together. The B side of this 12” is ‘Paper Dreams’, which quickly disregards the lightness of its precursor in favour of a clearly deep house inspired techno, using swirling synths and emotional melodies in careful equilibrium. The result is a track that simultaneously pulls one half of you into a trancelike, insular state, and the other half of you to the centre of the dancefloor. The perfect end to this sublime, multifaceted EP.

Pan-Pot’s busy touring schedule over the Summer no doubt inspired their upcoming 12” ‘Captain My Captain’. Having performed for countless festivals and main-stage crowds, their new tracks put forth glacial soundscapes so epic they could sink the Titanic.

If it's possible to say this, title track 'Captain My Captain' is actually the more restrained and studied of the three - featuring vocals written and recorded by Los Angeles based studio vocalist and label freund Cari Golden, who also wrote and performed the vocals on Anja Schneider's recent release for the Hi Five! mobilee compilation 'Something Left'.

Meanwhile, 'Black Horse Down' and 'Bad Photocopy' have everything a true Pan-Pot fan could ever wish for - think dark and heavy, builds and drops, synths and loops - true four a.m. grit to get your hands in the air and keep you raving until dawn!
