This Year

"Silver Spoon" is a pivotal track on Hold Out. Given its driving beat, use of tremolo, glockenspiel and vocal harmonies, the song gives the album a sheen that isn't found on recordings such as "Rooms" or "Going Nowhere". Rather, rough edges are found in cutting lyrics that use substance connotations, metaphors and desperate phrases to create a delicate, heart-wrenching picture of impoverished life and times.

The Needle And The Tapestry was a throwback during early recording to a time when we wrote and tracked songs without effects, samples or accompanying musicians. It's dark and ragged: exactly what a Hayfield & Crow song should be.

Hayfield & Crow songs are a lot like someone trying to look on the bright side whilst watching their house burn down around them. With the self-recorded and self-released album "Sunday Hangovers" the group delved into basic, sturdy song structures coupled with ringing harmonies and direct messages. Three years later, the group breaks new ground with a studio album that stands on its own. With songs ranging from hard rock to painfully delicate folk, the track listing shows countless influences, but remains unequivocally Hayfield & Crow. With the addition of musicians to fill out rhythm and live vocals, the group is currently writing their third album.
