FML - Fix My Life - By Hayley Aurora [ASC 2023 Submission]

Hey! I’m Hayley Aurora, or Angel as friends call me. I produce, write and sing my own music, among other things.

Growing up in South Florida, I was exposed to all types of culture and music. My mom played The Strokes and Dave Matthews Band all the time, my dad was a DJ, and I’ve always had my headphones in for as long as I’ve had an iPod/computer/cell phone/you name it.

I was a quiet kid, unless you knew me– in which case my mouth was always running 100 miles an hour. A lot has changed since then but not that. Now I run my mouth in front of a microphone when recording/performing, or into my Voice Memos app when I’ve got an idea I can’t work on right away.

I mainly make pop/RnB projects, but I love and draw inspiration from all sorts of music. Even country! I mean, who doesn’t loveDolly Parton? Some of my other favorite artists are Victoria Monét, Adele, and Dua Lipa. Whether it’s my next-door neighbor playing 60s rock on his radio or that one guy on the bus with no headphones playing gangsta rap, I take inspiration from art everywhere.

One of the things that inspires me to keep going in my own career and personal life is listening to other women and queer people expressing themselves as well as their feelings and thoughts freely. I’m a Taurus (and an astrology lover!), and Taurus rules over the voice, so it only makes sense to appreciate and use mine to express myself.

If I’m not making music, I’m at the beach, eating good food, writing in my journal, or going on a random adventure. Carpe diem and all that jazz. I would say more but I’m actually supposed to be working on one of my upcoming projects… so let’s talk later, yeah? Until then <3
