Flanders Fields

Inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, St. Mary’s Conwy is working with Pensychnant Conservation Centre to create a community art installation of more than 1000 origami peace cranes to be displayed in St. Mary’s Church this summer. This installation will serve as a visual reminder that we still need to work towards peace, particularly at this time of escalating tensions and atrocities in the Middle East, Ukraine, and many other corners of our planet, whilst celebrating the town’s twinning with Himeji in Japan, itself a shining example of international cooperation and friendship. The poem ‘The Gift’ was written by Alison Lock especially for this project, whilst I performed my recent composition ‘for cello and computer’ as part of the launch event. This piece of music is the result of our collaboration together.
