I Hate Models - Spreading Plague - Perc Trax

Like his name suggests, Black Merlin is something of a wizard. His music is drenched in worldly sounds and colourful cultures, not least his forthcoming Kosua album, a second on Island of The Gods. Inspired by his love affair with the island of Papua New Guinea, it features recordings of the local tribes, jungle sounds, wildlife and ancient dance customs so is a living and breathing document that immediately transports you to the southwestern Pacific. It comes after years of dizzyingly diverse releases on the likes of Pinkman, Mannequin and She Lost Kontrol that mix up EBM, techno, ambient and house, plus collaborative projects such as Karamka and Spectral Empire. 

His 90 minute mix for us is as stylish and unrestricted as you would expect, and given that we’re in Halloween month, it feels like it’s come just at the right time. Starting out with soot black apoca-disco, it traverses its way through study industrial, urban desolation and factory floors in meltdown. It’s mechanical and shadowy, but always filled with a sense of tension and suspense that keeps you enthralled.

Monnom Black will mark its 17th release with its first various artist compilation presented on triple vinyl. Keeping with the label’s modus operandi, the compilation is packed with iconic, raw and uncompromising techno, featuring 13 artists new and old to the imprint, including a re-release of a classic Drax aka Thomas P. Heckmann track from 1993.

To coincide with the launch of the compilation, Monnom Black will hold its first highly-anticipated label party. Locking arms with the notorious underground Dutch promoters Reaktor, known for their challenging events and pushing the boundaries of what techno has to offer. Together they will celebrate with an electronic onslaught on New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam’s Elementstraat Warehouse. A location cut to the bone that perfectly encapsulates the label and promoters combined vision and ethos.

Dax J curates the night fusing the label together for a special moment in time, with the titan warehouse opening up two of its rooms hosting a monster line up with the likes of CJ Bolland, Regis as CUB, Thomas P. Heckmann, I Hate Models, UVB, Stranger, Zanias, Cressida, Inhalt Der Nacht, Raffaele Attanasio, Tommy Holohan and Remco Beekwilder.

Her first release outside of her own Bpitch Control imprint in well over 10 years, German techno stalwart Ellen Allien's abrasive techno slammer 'Take A Stand' on Nonplus Records is a nebulous yet poignant political call to action for the wider dance music community. 

Following the release of the single back in September of this year, Bpitch Berlin has tapped four of dance music's finest producers to deliver a remix package of this robust rave tune. First up on the four-track 'Take A Stand' Remix EP is the young Berghain resident, Kobosil. Feeding off rough and dark dancefloor energy, Kobosil's brutal rework of the track takes Ellen Allien's shouted slogan and turns it into "a disembodied curse that haunts this lysergic peak time banger."

Belgian techno architect and Mixmag's October 2018 cover star Amelie Lens gears up to deliver the third release on her freshly minted LENSKE imprint, 'Basiel'. Named after her godchild, the three-track EP is loaded with tumultuous timbres and stormy tones that make for destructive dancefloor behavior.

Ahead of the EP's release on November 23, Amelie Lens has shared the EP cut, 'Energize'. A track that does exactly what it calls itself, the fierce rhythm of the tune's drums in conjunction with Lens' permeating mantra urges clubland revelers to bring more power to their enviorment.
