🍪Sharpson returns with his live project; Double Screen

Choki Biki label head Dónal Sharpson fuses the atmospheric synths of his live electronic alias "Double Screen" with the fast tempo BPM and percussive style of his Club orientated Sharpson project in his brand new 4 track EP; U FOUND ME.

After a 3-year hiatus, the live electronica project from the Irish Producer and DJ Dónal Kofteros Sharpson; Double Screen returns with a banging 4 track EP.  U FOUND ME is a melodic blend of Future Garage, Breakbeat and Techno and a testament to London based producers experience as a versatile producer.
 
The EP was produced entirely on his daily commute to work as a teacher using the London Underground. Sharpson has even incorporated recordings from the Victoria Line’s mundane announcements, and the creaky metallic sounds of the tube travelling at high velocity, which he recorded using his laptop’s microphone.
 
Starting off the EP is the titular track U FOUND ME. A high tempo track with a UKG beat and a beautiful anthemic melody. Double Screen’s signature vocal sampling is very much prevalent here, giving the entire piece a melodic vibe, similar to productions from acts such as Tourist, Fred Again and George Fitzgerald. This opening track is available to download for free from the 27th of January on Double Screen’s SoundCloud account. It is also available to download for free if you pre-order the EP on the Choki Biki Records Bandcamp.
 
The second track of the EP is a collaboration between Double Screen and Cork based producer and vocalist; Blakkheart. The two have collaborated prior to this on Double Screen’s ‘Blood Stream’, which sets the bar for the pairs work at a high standard and thankfully, I Wonder continues this tradition. The combination of Sharpson’s production skills and Blakkheart’s song writing ability combined with her unique vocal style creates an atmosphere like no other. The haunting vocals and 2-step beat make I Wonder  the perfect example of a festival banger.
 
The third track of the EP is titled Kojima, a Future Garage ripe with hard thumping beats and atmosphere. Using recordings of the thunderous echoes created by the tube on its journey, and the hiss of its breaks, Sharpson creates a dark soundscape which envelopes this piece. Although it is less melodic than the other tracks on the EP, placing more emphasis on the percussion and a-tonal bass, Double Screen’s playful use of vocal chops to create unique melodies is prevalent. The producer alternates between melodic patterns creating scarcity and lack of repetition for this track as only one of the melodic patterns comes back for a return. Kojima’s intensity and sound design is familiar to releases from the likes of Burial, Aphex Twin and Squarepusher.
 
Finally we have Mugen which starts off as a Garage sounding track, slowly revealing itself to be a hard-hitting ‘4 To the Floor’ Techno banger. Double Screen’s ability to create atmosphere shines through here with this Trance sounding track. Its anthemic melodies, rich sound design and use of choirs give it a sense of epic-ness. Easily the right track to finish off this collection of tracks.
 
Double Screen - U FOUND ME comes out on Choki Biki Records on the 17th of February on all online digital streaming platforms.
