Fresh from getting his ‘Ass Out’ for Dirtybird’s ‘New Year Special’ just weeks ago, Sage Armstrong returns to the coop with two more deliciously sleazy funk fusions...  

Heads turned since his label debut ‘What’s Yo Tempetcha?’ last summer on the Dirtybird BBQ collection: Sage is fast becoming one of the label’s most distinctive characters. His slurring south western drawl delivering steamy narratives, and his heady fusion of hip-hop, booty bass and tech funk, give a cool confidence that’s seldom seen at such an early stage of an artist’s career.

Case in point: ‘She Smokin’. A track – co-penned with his longstanding studio wingman Bot – it rolls with an unhurried broken kick arrangement and intoxicating subs while Sage paints a classic picture of lust at first sight, his steamy saga building with the slick synth fills and broad bass. 

Another case in point: ‘Quest To The West’. Here Sage gets personal as he notates his transition from east to west. Written just days after he relocated from Florida to LA, Sage runs us through his adventure through a sun-baked soft-focus haze.

Swedish electronica band Highly Sedated have announced the release of their fourth single ‘Last Call’, which is due for release on 31st March via Steve Angello’s SIZE imprint.

‘Last Call’ is driven by a deep, rumbling bassline and fluttering synth patterns, underpinning a haunting vocal performance. The dark anthem follows on from their previous releases, ‘Got Some Water’ and ‘Make Love’, which were a firm fixture on Steve Angello’s BBC Radio 1 Residency last year and continue to receive thousands of plays across Spotify and Soundcloud.

Formed in 2015, Highly Sedated are a five-piece group whose dynamic producing efforts have gone on to receive a large amount of praise and have caught the attention of Steve Angello himself, who swiftly signed the band to his revered imprint. Last year, the band provided a special BBC Radio 1 session, as part of Steve’s BBC Radio 1 Residency, where they performed live from the SIZE studios in Stockholm. Highly Sedated continuously showcase their genre-bending style and bold musical connection with their eagerly-anticipated releases. Constantly pushing the boundaries of dance music, Highly Sedated are set to build on their achievements into 2017.
