Today we introduce you to the talented Leipzig-based artist Eulogy also known as Boeckler. Although his pseudonym Eulogy is quite new, he already made himself a name in the hypnotic and mental techno scene. Not only is he the owner of Proselytizing, but also also part of PVC collective. 

His music combines endless multi-percussive rhythmic energy, with spherical enlightenments of electronic music. By taking the listener deep down the rabbit hole, he spins an endless voyage of atmospheric circles and hits you with uncompromising baselines and trenchant drum patterns. His DJ-sets and productions both reflect his current era me of mind and the desire to control more and more the affection for bizarre sounds and noteworthy rhythms. We are very happy to not only share this podcast with you, but also to had him contributing to our first and recent release. For the first podcast of the year, we invite CONCEPTUAL. After almost a decade of producing under the duo of Beat Movement, the artist started a solo project driven by extremely visceral textures. The first output under the CONCEPTUAL was the album released on Oscar Mulero's Warm Up Recordings. His set display a similar fashion, with carefully selected tracks that can go deep or industrial, but all with a distinct sound to catch your attention. In this mix, he went for an experimental deep and tribal excursion: something we may have never heard before.

Our next guest is RON L, member of the Rotterdam-based collective Embodiment. He has crafted a powerful blend of driving, loopy and hypnotic sounds for us.

After years of actively experiencing the Dutch techno scene, Jeroen was becoming more and more drawn to that world by the long-lasting feelings of fulfillment and belonging that he experienced after every event. His love and passion for the music made him take the next steps into starting his journey as a DJ. We are happy to become more international and host this rising DJ from the Netherlands.

Each artist has a special story to tell about their musicianship. Techno producer Desroi, who in every day life goes under the name Frederic Lindemann, has a relatively no-nonsense one. Observing from the outside, his production process seems to be one of tight structure and focus, holding great modernistic vision.

Desroi studied Composition at Folkwang University of Arts – parallel to his already ongoing career as a DJ, producer and label owner – having graduated in 2018. His craftsmanship combined with a more theoretical academic view gives him a distinguished position on the scene. Desroi is curious about exploring the bridges between contemporary music and techno, and he recently said he is less interested in arrangement, melodies and harmony, and much rather focuses strongly on textures, rhythms and new sounds. Listening to his compositions these quotes makes nothing but sense; Desroi’s techno is entrancing and layered but holds no unnecessary clutter. His tracks are so strictly organized and reduced that after spending some time with these stripped creations, the listener will discover something way more abstract than at first glance. Both as a live artist as well as a DJ, Desroi’s performances again focus on unsparingly and unsentimentally exposed material. Raw surface sounds and screeching futuristic signals prevail. Whereas the live-set is a concentrated form of relentless techno, the DJ-sets are a different journey; big room-oriented, but occasionally serving deeper vibes; small air pockets where one can gather energy before the next pounce.

Aside from releasing on his eponymous Desroi label, other highlights are appearances on Henning Baer’s Manhigh- and Shifted’s Avian imprints. Desroi is at the moment laying the final touches on his debut album, confirmed for release on “a well-known techno label” in 2019. Due in the first half of the year is an EP with the given title “Azara” on Spanish label Envra.

1981 an eleven year old kid gets a gift, that is the New Life 7 inch by Depeche Mode, from that very moment the cold beats of drum machines and the alien sounds of synthesizers are the soundtrack of his life, until today.

Living the eighties as a teenager, he absorbs every futuristic and dark sound as a fan, new wave, goth, proto EBM, classics like Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream ...

1987 marks the switch from being pasive to being active, he gets his first synth and drum machine combo as a christmas gift from their parents, a second hand Kawai Sx 240 keyboard and a Korg kpr 77 drum machine, and starts making his own noises and beats from scratch. Soon he forms his first music project, called Ballet Mecánico, with his two fellows Groof and Daniel Erbe.

Heavily synth pop influenced in the beginning, their sound soon moves to darker territories after discovering Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb and later moving into proto rave sounds via the Frequencies album by LFO or the Yellow album by Orbital, as well as those lovely Detroit compilations released in the UK by Network records: Bio Rhythm and Retro techno amomg others. This project last until the mid nineties and left two vinyl releases.

1995 is when his solo career as Hd Substance starts, releasing a track on the Electronic Generators compilation, a showcase of spanish techno pioneers at the moment, on Geometrik records, home of the seminal industrial cult band Esplendor Geométrico a stepping stone to his debut album Eleven on the also cult label Elefant Records.

After more than 20 years in the bussines, more than 30 Ep’s and six full lenght albums, Hd Substance is still here as a full actor in the scene, writing, composing, remixing and playing electronic beats all over the globe, as live performer or as traditional beatmatching dj. An entire life devoted to electronic music in any form.
