STEP 1: Selection
I made a root key chart in order to find the perfect key to work with, then I started chopping samples from the original tracks. I used phase cancellation, mid/side processing and selective EQing to extract them. Tracks were key-matched using élastique engine in order to preserve formants and minimize artifacts.

STEP 2: Arranging
I re-opened an old project made with some friends for Caliber Music, surprisingly its chord progression fully fitted with no major changes needed. I used vocal parts from the original tracks on the breakdowns and some chopped samples for the drop.

STEP 3: Mixing
I EQed accurately samples to eliminate background instruments. I used also some creative EQing on the glitch part. Stems were sent to an analog summer.

STEP 4: MASTERING: Track was heavily compressed. Some minor fixes to color and stereo image.

-ARRANGEMENTS -

Great recordings start and end with the quality of the song. At Head2Toes Studios, we do not use a "one size fits all" mentality when we approach our clients.

Our recordings sound like the artist - not us. They will never sound overly polished or full of things the artist did not intend. They will always have some sort of x-factor to them that makes them unique. This is musical production that serves the purposes of the song. This is how hit songs are produced.

We do not like to charge by the hour. Why? Because at this studio, a production is never done until it is finished. We will never rush the mixing/mastering process simply because the recording ran over. We have had many clients and none of them have ever left here unhappy.




- MIXING -

Mixing is the frequency, panning, and volume calibration process of each sound in order to obtain a homogeneous ensemble, where all the musical instruments, effects, sounds, and voices of a song are comprehensible.

There are several considerations of a final mixing, from the needs of the artist to the objective judgement based upon the genre or comparison of the songs being taken into consideration as a reference. For these reasons the client has to work closely with the sound engineer to obtain the best result possible. To simplify a mixing session, our client should give to us (by web or traditional mail) the separated tracks of the song in singles .wav (44hkz, 16bit) files. All the tracks must start at the same time, and be synchronized in order to open directly in our multi-track mixing system. Please keep in mind that “the best mix starts from a good arrangement”, and the frequency covered by instruments depends on the notes played.




- MASTERING -

The finalization process before cutting or burning of a song is called Mastering, the next step after mixing.

This process is useful for preparing the track appropriately for final media. Sometimes a bad mix can be corrected in the mastering stage, but every case needs to be evaluated individually.
