In the UK Midlands of late 1988, shortly after the second Summer of Love, a 15 year old schoolboy, already immersed in Acid House and Detroit Techno, reads in one of the pretentious London-centric mags he devours each month about a new sound which could be the next big genre.  It's called New Beat, and it comes, of all places, from Belgium. This makes him pay attention -  he spent every summer holiday of his youth in one of the country's resorts, and had vague memories of stark, pounding electronic music emanating from club doorways late at night.

He makes a trip from his suburban home into the city centre determined to find some examples of this new music. After a lot of searching he comes up trumps: a compilation album called 'New Beat - Take 1'. He buys it on the spot and takes it home to listen to. As with most albums he's ever bought, he feels slightly cheated, after a couple of good tracks there's a fair bit of filler, and certainly no overriding 'sound' other than a somewhat slow and Euro Pop centric approach to House. Nothing like the aural fingerprint of Acid or Techno. But...

Some of the tracks pique his interest. They have a dark, early 80s synth heavy sound which reminds him of both the Synth Pop of his youth, and the mysterious music filtering out of those Belgian clubs as a child...

He has to wait till the very end of the album for the best of these - a track called 'Flesh' by A Split Second. The fascinating sleeve notes of the L.P. tell the story of how an already banging tune in the established Belgian style of 'Electronic Body Music' was played at the wrong speed (33 1/3 and +8 on the Technics deck) by an Antwerp DJ called Fat Ronny. The club went wild, and a new genre was born - Belgian producers trying to replicate the slower groove and dark timbres of this fateful bit of serendipity. The UK schoolboy gets more than a little obsessed by the tune...

The lad in question went on to form a career in dance music production, and after 25 years has decided to revisit this important and very personal piece of nostalgia, fashioning a complete, respectful and sample free rework of the track based on it's 'go slow' speed.

This is the 3rd single taken from the upcoming Headman album. Vocals are by Mexican DJ and producer Vongold. The single features a remix by New Hook and an extra song called Live120.

Sometimes is inspired by the 90s, as Headman recalls them. A mix of Indie and dance electronica.
Vongold having already released on Relish, a collaboration with fellow Mexican artist Mufti, added Vocals to the track.

Remix duties are by Leipzig’s New Hook. A female power-force DJ and producer duo that recently released the track Manipulation. They gave the original track an even more 90s dance spin.

The last track on the single is called Live120, also taken from the upcoming album. It could be described as a classic Headman track. Live Bass, a forward thumping beat and some electronic overtones.

Headman/Robi Insinna's Album "6" is to be released in September via Relish. The
Album will be coming together with a special artbook and a video directed by Robi
himself.

Artist, Producer and DJ Robi Insinna aka Headman released his first album 'It Rough' in
2001. He has also released tracks as 'Manhead' and remixed the likes of Roxy Music,
Gossip, Franz Ferdinand , Richard Fearless, Nitzer Ebb, The Units, Unknown Cases,
Gina X and Klein & M.B.O.

The new album "6" feels like the conclusion of the music he has been putting out over the years. There are many collaborations on the album, with friends and artists he has worked with over the years.

Featuring on the Album are Brassica, The Emperor Machine, Red Axes, David Shaw,
Sam from Gramme, Rosie from hot new Berlin Act Ballet School, Brassica, Bozzwell
and Tara from It Rough fame!

The album release comes accompanied by a Fanzine like Art Book with a download code for the Album, there will be 2 x 12" vinyls together with the digital and CD release.
The concept is further developed in the Video for the first Vinyl EP which is directed by Robi and has been premiered on THUMP/VICE TV. It's a fusion of Art, Fashion and Music, the 3 things that in Robi's eyes should always go together. VIDEO:

'6' is quite an eclectic album with a strong grounding in electronica whilst also staying true to the previous output of Robi and Relish Recordings. Some tracks can sound more like post punk ESG influenced, some more like pre-detroit machine funk, and some of the vocal tracks have a more pop sensibility!

The album was produced with loads of analog equipment which gives that organic feel, but Robi always stresses that he does not want to be just Retro, but take the best from the past and use it together with the technologies from now to create something modern.

Style is always something very important for his projects, the use of old synths, guitar
pedals, tape delays, drum machines or emulations, and old Vintage gear was essential to
create a vintage / classy sounding album, which is also reflected in the art book and the
video. The video is filled with references from the past, late 70's 80's and 90's but again with a style and taste that makes it very modern.

Señor Chugger, a prolific Bristol-based producer and remixer, makes his debut on Wrong Era with an EP filled with his unique blend of euphoric synth lines and sophisticated, arcane themes. His music immerses listeners in a synth-ridden realm, offering a collection of instant classics. The EP, 'Sunset On The A38' , also includes remixes from Wrong Era Label heads Sesto Senso and fellow label affiliate Radondo.

Señor Chugger sets the tone with '75 To Seafront ', a track that kicks the release into high gear. The tight, weighty drums and metallic pads create a powerful backdrop, while the descending bass-arp adds a visceral element. '75 To Seafront' seamlessly combines Chugger's monstrous bass tones and fluttering emotional melodies, creating a journey of euphoria with each rhythmic combination.

'Party In A Field In Cornwall' flirts with flashes of early UK house and Señor Chuggers special blend of Italo Disco. A creamy synth line, singing over a rasping, defined bass riff, unfolds into the mix. Still in keeping with the solidity of the intro track, percussion is robust and melodics are carefully detailed. The midway point of the EP is marked with the endlessly emotive and sophisticated 'Festival Skyline'. Painting an artful sonic depiction of its title' Festival Skyline' breathes a modern breath onto the golden era of new wave with choral harmonies that bring a tear to the eye and a bassline that anchors these emotions.

Stepping into the synthwave 'From The Harbour' weaves into flange-soaked electro. A swirling synth hook dances over a pulsating bass arp. Deliciously tuned vocoder lines swim through the crisp instrumentation with punctual vocal stabs. Choral pads join the medley preempting sliced vocal chops that put his elegant sound design on full display. These vocals whip across the stereo field, concluding the track's excitement.

'Sunset On The A38' closes with the fittingly named Devon Expressway. An anthemic pad-driven atmospheric piece with dimly lit twilight imagery. A tweeting synthline clambers over the augmented low-end hinting at the central theme to come. Haunting choral synths chant and swathes of pads sweep through the arrangement. A CMI cries out, and an enigmatic melody pricks the ears. Señor Chugger combines his innate gift of pushing genre boundaries, painting sonic scenes with effortless charm.

Along with these 5 shimmering tracks, label heads Sesto Senso and Wrong Era's Radondo join the release with remixes of '75 To Seafront' and 'Festival Skyline'. The illustrious collaboration of Fabrizio Mammarella and Franz Scala brings their signature metallic arps and earth-shattering drums to the remix. Respectfully lifting key elements from the original and injecting them with their infectiously energetic flair, a peak-time dancefloor gem is born. Radondo gives 'Festival Skyline' a stripped-back rework, letting the choral harmonies of the original shine forth. His signature percussive approach tows the line for an infectious bassline to dance below the arps of Señor Chugger.

Cleaning up my computer and files I came across many tracks I've done in the past that are useless and horrible. Buuut I found a couple that I felt could work pretty well nowadays. Everyone is playing fast, so let's just go back in time to my hard drive 7 to 10 years ago and enjoy some 105 to 110 bpm tunes. Repetitive, groovy, heavy basslines and a good old snare.

Stephane Bern's New Boyfriend

Robi Insinna is a Producer, DJ, Visual Artist and INDUSTRIA and RELISH owner.

Back in 2001 he founded the seminal Relish label in direct response to a then-dominant sound in club music. Its catalogue is as vast as it is varied and foreshadowing the music he'd go on to make himself under Headman/Manhead. Some highlights are IT ROUGH, Birth School Work Death, in the early years for the newer period tracks such as Be Loved, Dechainee. He also was busy remixing the likes of Roxy Music, The Gossip, Franz Ferdinand, The Units, Unknown Cases, Gina X and many more.
Relish has also been busy releasing international talents and remixes such as Daniel Avery, Red Axes, Borusiade, Manfredas.


Fast forward to 2018 he's on the move again launching new Project label, Industria with - not quite an album, not quite an EP - Hard Work. The debut was released under Robi's own name.
Industria will be focused more on vinyl releases, but not solely vinyl. The project will encompass all areas of Robi's work and ties together elements of his art and visual design projects and products.
