In December of 2020, one of my favourite imprints released a label compilation. Ryan Griffin has been lovingly curating every single release on A Strangely Isolated Place since 2012. He’s also compiled sublime Reflection mixes which I have happily syndicated on Headphone Commute. Following the first label showcase launched in 2019, Ryan puts together ten tracks, including a few previously unavailable as singles, that make up this 2020 Label Compilation. As a bonus, this release includes an hour-long continuous mix (available as part of a digital-only purchase), which I have arranged with Ryan to share with you today. “I hope the (continuous) year-end mix will become a regular occurrence going forward,” says Griffin about the release. “Many of you will know a big part of my inspiration and passion lies in DJ’ing and classic mix CDs. If the label momentum continues and releases keep coming as planned, then each year I’d like to invite a DJ to select and mix tracks from the label – make an annual tradition out of it.” This compilation is still available for purchase on a CD for only $10, while the digital-only album is up for grabs for only $1!

Shimmering Moods @ Resonance Extra #52

I’ve got an exceptional podcast for you today, folks. It’s not a mix but rather a continuous, single, long-playing track composed by Fields We Found. I’m sharing this fantastic music as an opening to an introduction to a brand new label, quiet details, which I will be profiling this week. Founded this year by the artist behind this piece, the imprint focuses on each artist’s interpretation of the phrase after which the label is named. Spanning multiple genres, the upcoming releases explore this idea in each artist’s unique way, with the catalogue and upcoming schedule including names such as the humble bee, Fields Line Cartographer, Luke Sanger, bvdub, zakè, and many others [with nearly two years of releases planned already!], whom I’m sure we’ll find on these pages. Each release will be accompanied by handmade artwork, with the music and each artist’s intuition as a guide to the palette and structure, available as a physical item with bespoke packaging and individual prints. It’s a wonderful series to follow from the very beginning, and I am honoured to be a part of this introduction to you. En ce début de mois de Janvier 2024, quoi de mieux qu'une rétrospective des sorties qui ont marqué l'année 2023. Entre coups de cœur, découvertes et artistes phares de la scène, je vous propose une sélection d'une vingtaine de morceaux, pour un résumé hautement partial des plus belle sorties de la cuvée échue.
Replongeons nous dans la très riche et foisonnante année 2023, au sein d'une scène ambient toujours aussi vive et prolifique. Entre labels qui s’affirment, artiste émergents qui émergent forts, newscommer talentueux, et artistes phares au sommet de leur art, on ne s'est pas ennuyé durant cette année, qui j'en suis sûr ,ne nous a pas encore livré tous ses secrets. Tour d'horizons non exhaustif, tant il faudrait au moins deux volets supplémentaires pour faire le tour du sujet. Mais on aura l'occasion tout au long de cette saison radiophonique d'égrainer les morceaux qui sortent du lot.

Hidekazu Imashige aka Gallery Six is an artist and composer who is based on Miyoshi Hiroshima, Japan.

He began his career as a musician playing drums in some bands, then in 2008, he started making ambient music releasing “Invisible” EP on Twisted Tree Line (UK), “Element Perspective 071” on Element Perspective (Japan) and some self-released albums.

In 2010, Gallery Six with other artists have formed “ArtLism.JP”, is an art group, made up of musician, photographer and film director, met together under the concept of interplay between “Art + Altruism”.

Based on his theme “Multidirectionally considering aesthetics which are very familiar, often forgotten, concealed in nature or events, and finally reveal them”, he has been making ‘sound sketches’ mixing drone sounds mainly created from synthesizer and materials field-recorded when he goes wherever his heart leads.

Hidekazu Imashige (aka Gallery Six) 는 일본 히로시마, 미요시에서 활동하는 아티스트이자 작곡가이다. 그는 뮤지션으로서의 경력을 밴드에서의 드러머로 시작했으며, 2008년 그는 영국의 Tweisted Tree Line 에서 "Invisible" EP 를, 일본의 Element Perspective 에서 "Element Perspective 071" 과 더불어 몇 개의 셀프 릴리즈를 발표하며 앰비언트 음악을 만들기 시작했다. 

2010년 Gallery Six 와 몇몇의 아티스트들은 사진가와 영화 감독, 뮤지션으로 구성된 아트 그룹 "ArtLism.JP" 를 조직했다. 그리고 Art 와 Altruism 사이의 어떤 지점에서 함께해왔다.

그는 "우리와 매우 친숙하며 때로는 잊혀지고 자연이나 사건에 숨어있는 것을 다방향적으로 고려하며, 그리고 마침내 그것을 찾아내는 것" 의 신념을 기반으로, 그의 마음이 이끄는대로, 주로 신디사이저와 필드 레코딩으로 만든 드론 사운드를 믹싱하여 사운드 스케치들을 만들어낸다.
