From the steady dripping of raindrops in the rainy season, to the cicada in the summer heat, to the
gurgling of spring streams from melting snow, the majestically serene city of “Kyoto” Japan, is naturally filled with the poetry of nature.

New beginnings offer enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth, the hauntingly beautiful sounds of young Japanese ambient composer “Michiru Aoyama” offer something of a peaceful and reassuring retreat, detaching the listener from the current material world, therefore accommodating the quests of purity, love and unbeknown wisdom.

Michiru also delivers the label's first ambient album release, with all together 6 pieces of naturally composed Electronic Music.

“Zen 禅 is a Japanese Spirit. I go to a temple in the early morning of the weekend. Then, I practice meditation in Zen Buddhism for about 3 hours. The heart becomes quiet, gradually like the water surface which is not choppy, but still. All environmental sound and non-sound, begin to have a meaning to me, and soon the sounds begins to shine” - Michiru Aoyama

Aaron Martin & Christoph Berg’s split called “Day Has Ended” is a piece of quiet, intimate music, interfused with daylight and covered by a soft mist of evening dreams. This album spans the course of a day until the point where night falls.

The first part, created by Aaron Martin, is a water-colour, cool and delicate. The twinkling sun reflected itself in a slow river, transparent silvery clouds sparkle and brush the heads of drowsy trees. The closer to the middle of the album, the lower goes the gentle shadow, saturating. In the second part - Christoph Berg’s one, water-colour turns into gouache. The sound becomes more full, more sensuous, it comes in waves, like breath of a sleeping man.

Just close your eyes, be all ears and you’ll feel – the night is not silent. Sweet tune of twilight and darkness full of echo, humming blue, vague voice of the strings and clear gleaming of bright stars in a velvet sky – that is the night.

It’s a perfect and severely sincere work, slightly bittered with melancholy.

Aaron Martin is a very talented multi-instrumentalist from Topeka, Kansas who has releases on such labels as Experimedia, Preservation, Under The Spire, Sonic Meditations.

Christoph Berg is composer and sound artist currently living and working in Berlin focusing on fragile acoustic chamber music compositions. Also writes electro-acoustic music as Field Rotation. He has releases on Facture, hibernate, Denovali Records, Fluid Audio.

Phil Tomsett & Aaron Martin - The Surface Of Our Dreams

In September 2015, I got swept away by the sonic tapestry of modular synthesis, deep textures, and fluid dynamics (the sonic composition, not the discipline of physics and engineering) coming out from a mysterious Serbian composer calling himself Abul Mogard. The story was that this Belgrade-based retired metal factory worker, with no previous music background, picked up a vintage Farfisa organ and self-build modular synthesizer and began recreating the sounds surrounding him for many years.  It was a great story, but I didn't buy it because the production quality was simply top-notch, and I knew that it would have come from an experienced electronic musician. I wasn't wrong, and years later, we learned that it was an alter ego of an Italian Guido Zen. "Great story, Mike, but what does it have to do with today's track premiere?" Well, as far as I know, Jan Nemeček _is_ from Belgrade, and he does indeed build rich layers of sound from "raw tonalities of partially defunct digital synthesizers." In this organic meets digital sound-generating chain of "neural" synth network, Nemeček reveals lovely hidden depths with low sub-bass, drony mutations, and granulated particles, which slowly evolve on this subtle horizon. It's an absolutely delectable track, which would keep many sound designers entranced with its tasty details. And yes, albeit I enjoyed that fable of Mogard, I am indeed delighted that Jan Nemeček is real. Lovinly mastered by Stephan Mathieu!

As a token of my appreciation, I would like to release this album for free. Please enjoy it.

I have only one request. For once, for about 40 minutes listening to this album, please do nothing and think about nothing and just be in a daze. We are too busy. We need time to intentionally give our heads and hearts a rest. Once you get into that habit, you will inevitably feel yourself becoming energized again.

The belgian-german band Dictaphone around mastermind Oliver Doerell returns with their fifth album named "goats & distortions 5".

After their last highly acclaimed album "APR70" Oliver Doerell is surrounded again by his longterm bandmembers Roger Döring (clarinet & saxophone) & Alex Stolze (violins). In the last 3 years they dived even deeper in their "morbid instruments" concept. An old tape machine, which Doerell found in a hidden room in his house in Berlin served as soundsource, ghostly sounds could be heard and the machine died soon after being sampled. For the first time Roger Döring played a bass clarinet on this album and after the recordings lost it in the subway on his way home…

They improved their skills to use rustle as a instrument and are supported by the voice of Helga Raimondi in the track "your reign is over". The result is an ungraspable, ghostly, spooky album consisting of ten different journeys into the experimental sound world of these unique compositions.

The history of Dictaphone: In 2000 Oliver Doerell found a partner in Berlin's Roger Döring, who shares Doerell's love for the Brussels-based music of the eighties. In the following years the duo and several guest musicians (e.g. Stephan Wöhrmann (SWOD) , Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact) released the critically highly acclaimed "m.= addiction" (2002), the "Nacht" EP (2004) and "Vertigo II" (2006) via the City Centres Offices label of Thaddeus Herrmann and Shlom Sviri (Boomkat, Modern Love). In 2009 the violin player Alex Stolze joined the band. During their two decades of existence Dictaphone played shows in more than 20 countries with festival appearances at Mutek, Transmediale, Unsound, Benicassim & more. Their latest releases were the praised "Poems from a rooftop" (Sonic Pieces) from 2012 and the "goats & distortions 5" predecessor  "APR 70" in 2017 on Denovali. Denovali also reissued the past repertoire of the trio in 2017. Oliver Doerell composed for more than 30 pieces of Modern Ballet and BBC documentaries.
