Anamnesis Landscape

Today I'm spending time with a new project inspired by the sacred, supernatural, and the occult. Kinn is a London-based artist interested in exploring the outer edges of mysticism with their exquisite palette of dark ambience, atmospheric cinematic, and ghostly noir-fi. The track I am featuring today is taken off the debut album, Anamnesis Landscape, which is formed around the notion that habit is informed by past memories, transpiring through previous existence, and shared by a collective experience. "It is believed by many sects that this knowledge is stored in the Landscape, lending a sense of divinity and sacred value to mundane physical objects." The widespread, carefully treated textures, impeccable timing and control of the aural movement, all mesmerise, conjure, and compel the listener to follow along into the obscure corridors of the unearthly and the metaphysical. "Hypnotic electronics are woven into sullen, brooding drones which find themselves between density and sparsity, challenging listeners to tread the line between comfort and discomfort." Fans of Roly Porter (in particular Kistvaen), Ital Tek (see Bodied), Constantine (I'm thinking Hades here), and, of course, Ben Chatwin (Ghost In The Machine), will find themselves right at home in this forgotten, spectral place. And although I am highlighting today "Black Sinking Clouds," I urge you to check out the album in full. Which, by the way, is about to be available on a "black as night" 180g heavyweight vinyl. Highly recommended.

Hidekazu Imashige, conocido como Gallery Six, es un artista y compositor basado en Miyoshi Hiroshima, Japón. Su tema: “multidireccionalmente considerando la estética, muy familiar y usualmente olvidada, escondida en la naturaleza y en los eventos, finalmente se nos revela”. Con esta idea ha estado realizando bocetos de sonido, mezclando sonidos drone, dirigiéndose a dónde sea que su corazón le lleve.

Su corazón ha aterrizado en la etiqueta de Diffuse Reality Records, Teorema, en la que presenta "The Inner World", un trabajo compuesto de nueve pistas originales.

Nuestro estreno para esta pista se llama 'Vortex'. "Vortex" en español significa "vórtice", y refiere a un torbellino, remolino o a un centro de un ciclón. Dentro de este trabajo, se trata de un vórtice sutil y aterciopelado, lleno de delicado ambiental.

This morning I am spending some time in the company of Pleq (that’s Bartosz Dziadosz) and Hakobune (Takahiro Yorifuji). Their 2012 album, titled Adrift, was originally released by the Nomadic Kids Republic sublabel of Home Normal, and now, eight years later, it’s not only remastered [and textured] by Ian Hawgood but also complemented with reworks by Olan Mill, Polar M, and the remix I am premiering for you today, by Jason Corder, aka offthesky. So yeah, a bunch of characters on this one. Adrift is an album of organic ambiance, warm texture, and minuscule glitch that sounds as gorgeous and regal as it did back when it was first released. Well, maybe a little more regal. For this edition, Ian has painstakingly reworked the pieces “from the original masters to reel-to-reel for a wholly new, more open and nuanced experience.” All that expensive analog gear put to good use there, eh? The result is a showcase of modern ambiance that still sounds fresh and new, with Corder’s remix adding in a touch of sub-particle-sized arrangement in subtle sonics and reminiscent din. The whole package is rounded off with brand new cover art by Giulio Aldinucci, which is too beautiful not to include here in its larger form. Thank heavens for Home Normal.

The last year has already produced not only an immense amount of [great] music, resulting from isolation, introspection, and experimentation that comes with plenty of time but also a few fantastic collaborations that had an opportunity to flourish as the artists adapted to the new way of working. I think it's no secret that the world post the COVID lockdown is never going to be the same. The ability to work from home has given rise to new remote opportunities while shrinking the geographical barrier to nearly zero. For many ventures, there is no need for local presence, and as a result, access to resources beyond the usual barriers has opened. In this context, Christopher Royal King (a member of a very famous and nearly legendary post-rock band This Will Destroy You) and Nico Rosenberg found themselves collaborating remotely on música para nuevos tiempos, which in itself translates to "music for new times".
