Following the release of 'Threshold' LP earlier this year on @scissorandthread, Francis Harris enlists some of the most exciting names in the electronic underground to impart rhythmic remixes, including this sultry slow burner from @yu_su.

Francis Harris - Earth Moves (Yu Su Remix) [Scissor & Thread]

Fans of my ongoing ramblings must be already familiar with music by Thomas Meluch who records under the alias Benoît Pioulard. And if for some reason you're not, you can begin with his albums on Kranky, starting back in 2006 and working your way up to the present, to follow a trajectory of this composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and photographer. Be sure to also round your journey with this studio feature, in which I profiled Tom back in 2015. He's done a few collaborations, including one with Rafael Anton Irisarri under the Orcas project name. For this gorgeous release on the one and only A Strangely Isolated Place we find Meluch alongside his long-time friend and collaborator, Luke Entelis, as Viul (pronounced 'vell' which rhymes with 'bell'), a New York-based ambient composer who has appeared on Meluch's own imprint, Disques d'Honoré, reserved mostly for his own self-released works, and Past Inside the Present, with Outside The Dream World in 2019. Their upcoming collaborative album is named after a Czech word for "the end" (you know, those final pronounced striking letters, that often roll up when the film reached its peak), capturing the uncertainty of the world amidst the pandemic. And while the pieces originally began as an exchange of sketches and short lo-fi loops, the music that followed is truly engaging. On my favourite track on the album, which I am honoured to premiere for you today, we find the duo painting with wide brush strokes in pastel colours, deep-textured warmth, and hazy memories. And although this piece at first appears to be a repeating, stretched, and saturated tape loop, the more you listen to its slow decay, the more it makes you feel alive.

"The variation in minutia, samples and instrumentation throughout the album cannot be understated amongst its hazy aesthetic and ominous poignancy. It’s one thing to notice the details, but another to unstick the melodies from the closing credits of a dystopian city’s downfall, from the forefront of your mind."

Knivtid - Undergrowth Rest

5ilth is album number five from Belgian experimental electronic music duo Suumhow. The album is the follow-up to the previously hidden, full-length Extra Failed Items. 5ilth finds the duo pushing their digital grittiness to new heights. Suumhow experimented with the limits of folding audio into analog video equipment for the album, then further pushing the aural boundaries within the digital realm. As the title suggests, the sonics on 5ilth can be incredibly filthy, often recalling the pixelated equivalent of a sand storm or locust plague. These monolithic moments of clipping and swirling 1s and 0s give way to warmer flashes of analog respite, and in some cases, the clipping itself is somehow shimmeringly melodic. As with their previous efforts, 5ilth does have its share of glitchy distorted beatwork that pushes and pulls the listener through the squall. It's a gratifying listen with equal parts: tribunal and reprieve and hold and release. 5lth is out on October 25th on ultra clear vinyl, limited to 250 units worldwide.

It has been a long time since we last released a compilation – our previous one was back in 2020. For the 100th release of our label, we felt it was the perfect occasion to celebrate in great company! We invited many musicians who have collaborated with Dronarivm in the past to create joint tracks with an artist of their choice. The result is 24 uniquely diverse tracks that showcase the vast musical spectrum of the genre we generally call "Ambient."

We are proud to present Illuminations III, a compilation created as a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has supported us over the years. This includes musicians, listeners, visual artists, photographers, designers, podcasters, reviewers, and everyone who has helped us grow and move forward.

Illuminations III features over two hours of outstanding music from leading ambient producers, and just like any true gift, it's completely free to download. Of course, if you wish, you can contribute any amount you find appropriate. All proceeds will go toward supporting and further developing our projects.

For those who prefer a physical format, the album is also available as a print-on-demand double CDr.

Sarah Davachi live at Bleep43 - 6th October 2016

Vergers is Davachi's third full-length release following Barons Court (2015, Students of Decay) and Dominions (2016, JAZ Records), and her second appearance with Important Records following 2014's August Harp cassette on the Cassauna imprint. 

In this work, she meditates on a single electronic instrument, the EMS Synthi 100 synthesizer, while also weaving sparse acoustic elements – her own voice and violin – into a series of three long-form, muted gestures.

Elements of distance and alienation are certainly at play in the textural quality of these compositions, a feeling that is further defined by track titles that reference the spirit world and an album title that calls to mind the solitary tasks of the church orderly.

The record opens with the aptly titled, Gentle So Gentle, a side-long movement that harkens the glacial character of Davachi's previous efforts. Ghosts And All and In Staying suggest a more disjointed path, with the latter culminating in a subtly dissonant dirge that leaves little absolve between the organic, the artificial, and the impermanent.
