Starting out as a drummer, Colorado producer Paul Brandt aka Paul Basic joined a band with Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights) and Michal Menert in high school before they each moved on to pursue solo production work. In fall 2011 Paul released his debut EP 'The Mirror' on Pretty Lights Music which featured a gritty, nostalgic sound blending dusty samples, grainy synths, biting bass and thick drums - a combination that earned him an integral place within the PLM movement. As Paul gets ready for a huge festival season, starting with the Snowball in Denver, he put this mix together to explore some of his greatest influences in music.

"This mix is a quick sampling of some tracks and producers that have had a significant influence on me over the years. Drums are a theme but other than that it's meant to be an eclectic look into some of the sounds that have shaped my ears. Also, I edited most of the tracks down from their original version so seek out the original if you like my edit. Enjoy!"

It was right around 3 and a half years ago, at a small event in Detroit called LAZER TAG, that I met intergalactic funk wizard Freddy Todd﻿. Since then, I have come to call Fred one of my closest friends in this whole music thing. His song, "Winter Defroster" has held a special place in my heart throughout our friendship, as I feel that it truly represents all that is good in the funk-glitch realm while also symbolizing our brotherhood...so when Fred asked me to remix one of his tracks, it was a no brainer which one I chose.

Unfortunately this remix could not be featured on Fred's remix album due to a name conflict and the label refusing to release it as a result of that conflict, so I have decided to post it up for everyone to enjoy. Without further ado, I present to you my remix of one of my favorite songs of all time.
