Its been more than six months since I’ve had the last chance to play some music in front of a crowd. I tried to put all of my hope, my love & dedication as well as my anger into this DJ mix. This journey reflects what I would be playing in the morning hours at a club such as KaterBlau and some melancholic-melodic moments to just make you fly away. Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this edition we welcome Deep Ghosh (@deep_schismic)

Deep (and yes, it really is his name) started his DJing journey in a sweaty club in Berlin back in 2017, where he witnessed his growing obsession for electronic music tip over from hobby to worthwhile passion. Since then, he has travelled to some of the dustiest and lushest corners of the globe from his hometown Melbourne to the beaches of Bali, from Black Rock City to the Tankwa Karoo of South Africa, from the mountains of Sinai to the Red Sea and beyond living out this passion. 

His musical selections are one of unabashed love of emotional, vocal melodies juxtaposition to the deeper end of the sonic spectrum, while showing the influences of his musical upbringing in rock music and pop culture as well as occasionally giving us peeks into the music of his ancestors.

While the world slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic, Deep managed to stay engaged in his passion for music. Since 2020, he is one of the curators of the Flow Sessions long-format mix series. He is also co-organiser, curator and "rave engineer" of boutique gatherings such as UTOPIA Festival, as well as being involved in organizing Burner and underground gatherings in Berlin and Amsterdam (where he is based since 2020 in pursuit of his rather cosmic day job as a space engineer looking after climate monitoring satellite missions).

This mix really captures how I love to get lost in music, create emotional journeys and showcase some of my musical influences. It was one of those situations of being out in a magical corner of the world--on a boat, out on the turquoise waters of the Red Sea--with some of my nearest and dearest celebrating the birthday of a legendary woman, and opening the musical proceedings for a week of love laughter and riding the waves.

Umso mehr freuen wir uns, dass unser Podcast-Jubiläum der Plattenkiste von „Elias Doré“ entspringt: Der gebürtige Berliner sammelte zahlreiche Erfahrungen in Bands diverser Genres von Afro-Funk über Klezmer bis hin zu Reggae und Soul, bevor er sich vor nicht allzu langer Zeit vollends der elektronischen Musik hingegeben hat. Mit dem Kurswechsel ist er sich dabei insofern treu geblieben, als dass seine Musik keine Spur der Wärme vermissen lässt, die er regelmäßig auf die Bühne gebracht hat: Seine Sets sind geprägt von der Liebe zu organischen Klängen und geradezu verspielten Melodien, die bereits die ein oder andere glückselige Floor-Umarmung zu verbuchen haben. Eine Direktinjektion Serotonin pur gegen die herbstliche Trübe – wir wünschen euch viel Spaß und freuen uns, „Elias Doré“ bald wieder auf dem Dach begrüßen zu dürfen.

Originally from Berlin, Elias Doré explored many facets of music by performing in various bands and genres, from Afro-Funk in Dakar, Klezmer and Gipsy in London to Reggae and Soul in Berlin, before fully immersing himself in electronic music. Our ninth episode welcomes Elias Doré: An artist with whom we've been in touch since quite some time now. Not confined by tempo or genre boundaries, Elias always takes his time to create a context and narrative around his music. With melodic elements at the heart of his sets, he strives to create an uplifiting and inspiring atmosphere on the dancefloor.

Recent shows have taken him across Europe, the Middle East and the US, with appearances at Fusion and Garbicz Festival, Burning Man and more intimate Berlin festivals such as Bucht der Träumer. Firmly rooted in the Berlin music collective and label Rebellion der Träumer, he curates its cataloque of releases while also continuing to work on his own productions.

I always found it challenging to record a studio podcast: my analytical mind is trying to calculate every move, evaluate each transition & criticize the selection. I have time, music & equipment at my disposal, but one key element is missing to really tell a story: humans.

I encountered that problem last weekend. Although I was playing music I enjoy, I felt that my technically structured mix was too stiff and impersonal.

Then, some of my favourite humans turned up at the studio. As Ashley, Apolline, Axel & Robin entered the room, the studio was suddenly filled with a great energy & I felt like pressing the rec button again, just for fun - this is when the first minutes of  S y m b i o s e  were captured.

I feel this studio mix is an authentic representation of the energy levels I like to navigate through during a longer set. It features some of my favourite tracks in a nod to the past but also has a touch of the future; new sounds that are moving me forward & some of my new compositions.

I’m happy to share this mix as I’m taking off for Argentina, what marks my first adventure of the decade. This music session brought me clarity, presence & joy! I hope you'll resonate with it.

Dear friends, It's been a while since I've shared new music and recordings. Nonetheless, I have been spending extensive love on curating my music collection and fortunate enough to share glimpses of it in intimate gatherings during this pandemic. This recording was captured after closing for my friend Satori in one of the most breathtaking cenotes I have played at in beautiful Mexico. Its caretakers have treated this sacred land with the utmost respect and live in complete synchronicity with its surroundings, the local communities, and the ethos they live by. I've fallen in love with this location and its family. 

It took me a little bit to get in the groove, but I found it. 
Enjoy this one as much as I did and I hope we can do more of this together very soon in our new post-pandemic reality. Would love to hear what you feel.. I have a lot more to share.

Berlin-based DJ and producer Elias Doré paints tonal stories that seek to deepen human connection and invoke the innermost parts of your imagination. Inspired by years of musicianship in various bands, he seamlessly blends Organic House, Melodic Techno, Indie Dance, Afro and Disco into his sets.
