Welcome to the first episode of eHealthspace.org's new podcast, Health-e-Conversations. We've kicked off the podcast to add another dimension to the conversations started and faciliatated by this website, so let us know what you think.

Our first guest is Dr Christine Bennett, recently appointed Dean of Medicine, Sydney at University of Notre Dame. Dr Bennett is one of the health industry's respected leaders and practitioners. Formerly Chief Medical Officer at Bupa Australia, working with its well-known brands MBF, HBA, Mutual Community, ClearView and Bupa Care Services.

Joining us for this episode of Healthy Conversations is Dr Steve Hambleton, Federal President of the AMA and a Queensland GP.

Dr Hambleton assumed the role from outgoing president Andrew Pesce in May 2011, and in this interview with ehealthspace.org journalist Josh Gliddon spoke about his agenda for the next few years.

He also spoke about the benefits of ehealth, and need for clincian-led health reform rather than simply refinancing the health system.

For Dr Hambleton, better consultation is required from front-line doctors in the transformation of Australian healthcare.

Meanwhile, he argued in favour of a "medical translator" role to make sure electronic records held within the PCEHR are accurate and therefore trusted by clinicians and medical practitioners.

Our guest on Health-e-Conversations is Marianne Shearer, chief executive at Melbourne East General Practice Network. 

In this recording from the Health-e-Nation conference earlier this year, Marianne spoke with eHealthspace.org editor Mark Jones about her experience as a first wave PCEHR site. 

She also discussed how clinicians are responding to the PCEHR and electronic record’s benefits.
