The Heartland Song Network 'Elder Songs Project' preserves and protects the life stories of Elders in song. Elders from the Heartland are interviewed about their life and stories, and a participating songwriter is commissioned to write an original song based on the interview. The finished composition and recorded interview are provided to the elder and their family for their archives. This project is funded by members and supporters of the Heartland Song Network.

Our co-founder Danny Powell recently sat down for a conversation with his friend, and entertainment lawyer, Harris Wilder. Harris shares insights on the current music industry and gives advice for music creatives. 

Harris Wilder has over 30 years experience practicing law, starting and running companies and business consulting. Having left a large firm, his current role as advisor and private counselor to his clients gives him greater freedom to provide top service and individual attention.
His specialties include private counsel to public officials and private executives, advisor to businesses, raising capital, consulting on deal structure and negotiating with Private Equity. He is one of very few attorneys in Kansas City with deep experience in Entertainment Law, including Recording Contracts, Music Publishing and Songwriting, Production and Distribution Agreements. 


Harris has a deep and historical knowledge of the music industry. He has been the manager of a Grammy nominated band and at an early age he made his way inside a major studio in New York as a singer to be turned away. He has a great understanding of the hard work, pitfalls and rewards of being a creator of music.
