Bellwether - Lotus

With the release of their 7th album, The Motet once again showcase their commitment to pushing the sonic envelope while remaining dedicated to the musical traditions that have defined their sound. The new self-titled album boldly states that this is the band The Motet has strived to become. The whole has become greater than the sum of its parts with each member of the band contributing to the writing and arranging of the songs, telling a unified story through syncopated rhythms and melodies. The band has also decided to take an analog approach in the making of the album by using tape, tubes and transistors. This gives the music a warm, rich, and organic tone with the crunch and bite of a classic ‘70s funk record.

"Tumbling" started out as a groove that was in need of becoming a song. It was one of those feels that I had done in the past, but with a more indie vibe to it. Lyrically it speaks of my first love and first loss all around a trip to the see The Grateful Dead in Pittsburgh. Sometimes I struggle to form a cohesive theme and groove, but this came together fairly easily and quickly. I like where this ended up, I hope you enjoy!

Once, sixteen million salmon migrated almost 1000 miles each year up the Columbia River, making their way back to their birth stream. Now, as few as 2% of the returning numbers are wild salmon. This icon of the Pacific Northwest faces many imminent threats from climate change to overfishing and habitat loss. The only way to save the salmon now is by protecting the last wild salmon.

Artsists4Action is proud to showcase an amazing collaboration of local and international artists on our first CD release, Songs for the River, in honor of the mighty rivers and sweet salmon that run her course. All profits from this album will be donated to the Columbia Riverkeeper who’s advocacy for the Northwest Salmon reaches into the heart of the issue.
