Tripswitch’s onedotsixtwo label continues to build its catalogue of first class releases with the ‘Convergence EP’, courtesy of an outstanding 3-track collaborative project joining Mønje & Partenaire. Within the unique melting pot of world-class talent that is emerging from Argentina, Sebastián Sellarés (aka Mønje) and Axel Bray (aka Partenaire) are standout future stars shining brightly throughout their ‘Convergence EP’.  

The EP title track radiates quality from start to finish, painting a beautiful, spellbinding, progressive musical portrait with a sophisticated layered structure, atmospheric chords and subtle motifs.  Meanwhile, ‘Illuminaria’ soars with a delightful glistening vigour, cleverly blending percussive elements with ever-evolving layers of melodic mastery – an exotic creation that shows precisely why the current renaissance of proper progressive house music is such a joy to behold.  For the EP’s climax, Mønje & Partenaire unleash ‘Opposed Auras’, a track that sees their hypnotic creativity in full-flow, where countless delicate touches combine to create a track of ever-evolving excellence – a perfect finale for this first class package.

This is Partenaire’s second outing on onedotsixtwo, having debuted with ‘Yesterdays’ – a beautiful melodic highlight on Tripswitch’s ‘In At The Deep End’ (ODST0001) compilation project that started the label’s journey joining of the dots across the thriving global scene with a boundary-blurring, proper progressive ethos.  The Buenos Aires native DJ/Producer has been steadily building a stunning portfolio of releases on labels such as ICONYC, Clubsonica, Auditen, Modern Agenda, Soundteller and Stellar Fountain. Sebastián Sellarés (Mønje) was born in Córdoba in 1998, and started to get into music when he was very young. With a steady flow of releases on the likes of Massive Harmony, Light Side Music, BC2, PHW Elements, BCSA, Stellar Fountain and many more, he is (alongside Partenaire) one of Argentina’s finest emerging creative talents.

Although separated by a 10-year age difference and over 700 km (Cordoba to Buenos Aires), Sebastián and Axel (without ever being together in the same room) shared thoughts and ideas on a journey to find their distinctive combined sound.  This remarkable EP for onedotsixtwo is the fruit of their unique convergence.

Argentinian duo Analog Jungs make their debut on Hope Recordings with a sensational four-track EP. Breaking into the scene in 2015, Claudio Cornejo and Gustavo Ruartebring with them a rich progressive legacy from a country synonymous with the melodic side of house music. Already signed to some solid imprints such as Balkan Connection, Clinique Recordings, Dopamine Music and Or Two Strangers, Analog Jungs are well on their way to stardom.

The EP begins with the swaggering‘Voltaire’. 80s sensibilities and crisp production set this track apart and signal what’s to come. ‘Smiles’ follows from a deeper, subtly tribal place. More thoughtful than its wilder brother, this is perfect warm up material for the cooler floors.

‘Mission Capsule’ is an energetic, percussive groover. Pads drift in and out with a will of their own as the main synth hooks you in for the full ride. Rounding out the pack, ‘Iceman’ continues at pace. Warm, inviting pads marry with a woodblock-led percussive cushion as the breaks cools the tension before providing the all-important pay off.

Returning to Sudbeat after the excellent ‘Human’ EP is Emi Galvan with three more dancefloor bombs in the form of the ‘Alfa Zeta’ EP.

Emi Galvan has blazed quite a trail within the progressive community over the last four years. It was 2015 that he became a significant blip on dance music’s radar with the excellent ‘Mexico Trip’ and ‘You Never’. DJ support from the upper echelons of the genre has cemented his position, and spurred him on to ever greater achievements.

‘Alfa Zeta’ opens with ominous chords as the shaker led percussion draws you in. In no rush to leave, the groove develops patiently; layering synths and melody aplomb. ‘Karma’ is more insistent. It’s Moroder-like bass drives forward with Bladerunner sweeps and Eastern keys adding mystery. Rounding out the pack is the uptempo ‘Trust’. Built around a repeating hook, crisp percussive layers and powerful pads energise and grow over time into a climatic peak time monster.

Clubsonica Records begins their 2019 journey by welcoming Armandhe back to the label for a new EP. Previously known as Soluna, the Colombian artist adopted the Armandhe moniker with his ‘Sacred Heart/Ozadya' double a-side release from July of last year. A fresh start has only provided more creative energy for Armandhe who has continued to unite progressive music fans with his redolent creations. Now returning to his home label of Clubsonica, the Medellin resident presents his 'Inside the Music Box / While the Wolf's Away' EP alongside remixes from Paul Angelo & Don Argento and Jonnas B.

Beginning with ‘Inside the Music Box' Armandhe explores a deeper side of his studio repertoire. Free flowing from the outset, it's rippling low end provides a fluid energy while quirky hooks and timely effects fill in the framework. Stripping down into the main break, the musical narrative expands, opening a spiritual reservoir of glowing clusters and emotive chord changes, before effortlessly shifting energy into an evocative final act. 

The companion piece ‘While the Wolf's Away' follows a similar sonic ethos with its drummy tension and musical meanderings. Beginning with a warm, rolling groove the piece moves with discernible momentum, as layers of atmosphere and cascading themes converge in a perfect sonic marriage. As the second act evolves, striking electronics bring a melodic tension of sorts, dramatic and poignant in equal measure, they elevate the mood further before flowing beautifully into a rousing finale.

The first interpretation of ‘While the Wolf's Away' is provided by Paul Angelo & Don Argento who make their label debut here. The Cyprus based production team were undoubtedly one of 2018's fastest rising progressive house duos. Support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren came in waves and the duo's groovy, dance floor inspired take on the genre quickly became an irresistible trend. Now making their first and highly anticipated appearance on Clubsonica Paul & Don provide a stunning take on ‘While the Wolf's Away'. Dark and brooding from the outset, it's chugging cadence and ghostly motifs are immediately compelling. Indistinct vocals trail through the framework, elevating mood and tension throughout the break, before cascading tones and percussive flurries unite for an exhilarating apex and powerful drop. 

The release concludes with Jonnas B returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘While the Wolf's Away'. A staple of Colombia's progressive underground for seven years the Medellin based artist has earned play and support from the world's biggest DJs, most notably Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Now making a welcome return to Clubsonica, Jonnas rounds out the release with a superb rendition of ‘While the Wolf's Away'. Shifting mood and tempo to a deeper place it's a piece which excels on rhythm and groove. Perfectly contoured, its thick slabs of bass power forward as intricate percussion, delicate arps and haunting atmospherics lead into the break. Like an ultrasonic wave, emotional energy rises across the eighty second centrepiece, eventually melting down to rolling drums and a sheet of white noise, perfectly setting up a magical dance floor moment. A spectacular remix from Jonnas which caps off another must have release from Clubsonica Records, who get 2019 off to an incredible start.
