A tribute to who he was, and what he was, in spite of what he endured. Track uses the triplet motif and excerpts from 14th Sonata.  Created to accompany my digital painting, "Ludwig, The Defiant", part of a series in which I re-imagined historical figures from art and science in a fantastical way.  

To be clear nothing I make is ever really good enough. I see things, all the time, that could be better, especially when it's someone like him, who always meant so much to me.  He's my battle angel. It's not about the music, as beautiful as it is/was. It's about the person.  He was given every possible reason to crumble -  his father's abuse, his deafness, physical pain, his financial struggle - and he didn't.  He didn't - because he couldn't.  

Creating gave him life, it defined him, gave him purpose and sanctuary in a way that nothing else could.  That is something I relate to deeply, and even if I can never hope to achieve what he did, even if my "purpose" is just to be a part-time vessel trying her best to hold something unable to be fully held, I'm okay with that.  The reward remains: the process and feeling of creating.

Immortally Beloved - Ludwig, The Defiant

This track combines symphonic, ambient and trip-hop influences with a touch of old Europe, as the backdrop to the third painting in my "Heroes" series.  My series is dedicated to historical icons of art and science, but through a slightly fantastical lens: "RPG characters, but painted centuries ago".   

Marie Curie, as "Marie, The Undaunted",  was the third in the series;  I chose to portray her as a valiant but doomed dancer.   Her commitment to her research was met with a fascination for the delicate glow of the materials for whose discovery she can be credited - radium, and polonium - which she described as being like "...faint, fairy lights".   Such was their appeal, that Marie would sleep with them by her bed, and carry them in her coat pockets during the day.  Such was their danger, that -  even to this day - her lab and possessions are radioactive. 

It is this duality that I tried to capture: the petite and determined figure, unwavering in her focus, while dancing barefoot, unaware of the shattering glass beneath her feet.  With her music, celeste tones represent the "fairy lights", alongside unsettling ambient noise representing a Geiger counter: the warning that she could not hear.

Re-uploaded new master track for "Creephouse" - quickly written on iPad for use in one of my artwork promo videos for Mini Ninja Heroes' mobile game (and additional mastering done in Reaper/PC).  This track will also be included in the game soundtrack since the devs liked it. :-D

My take on "Streets of Desolation", from Stage 1 of Batman for NES. I went with a slower tempo, a different key, and added a bridge - I wanted to keep the feel of the original, but somehow update it, and make it new.  This isn't the fight - it's the drive through the city at night.

Nothing Twice

My tribute to a beautiful and dangerous thing - an emotion you will always miss, but hope you never encounter again.   On wie. 

Originally written in 2007 as 3/4 time for piano in a semi-drunken state. Reworked it in 2014 as 4/4.  The vocal recording was difficult - we have always lived in flats, and that one was small and noisy.  

Composed on PC; Sonar X3, Roland A49.
