Selek, coming out of Belgium, lands on Heavy Sonics Records with the formidable Lone Wolf EP. Selek delivers a three-track project that’s equal parts brooding minimalism and raw aggression, straddling the line between stripped-back, minimal D&B and bass-driven jump-up.

The title track is a true alpha, cold, focused, and stealthy in its intent. A sinister soundscape builds with eerie precision before the drop pounces with snarling bass stabs and skeletal drums. Lone Wolf hits hard. Six leans further into Selek’s darker tendencies, perfect for those moments in the rave where the energy turns hostile. Closing the EP is Thalassophobia, a track as murky and disorienting as its title suggests.

Lone Wolf EP is a standout release for both Selek and Heavy Sonics, emerging from the deepest, darkest corner. One that highlights the darker edge of drum & bass. Inspired by Ludwig Göransson’s haunting “Can You Hear The Music” — the lead track from the Oppenheimer soundtrack — “CYHTM” begins with a cinematic, tension-heavy intro driven by ethereal violins as opposed to flutes and subtle orchestral textures. The calm doesn’t last: after the break, it erupts into a storm of rolling reeces, booming sub-bass and stripped-back, precise percussion. A powerful opener for any deep or minimal set.

Acquiesce
On the flip, “Acquiesce” pushes the minimal approach even further. Stark, mechanical, and free of any organic textures, it drives deep into the darker spectrum of drum and bass. Punchy basslines and crisp drums dominate, offering a cold yet captivating groove designed for the late hours.

M:Pathy once again showcases his talent for atmosphere and detail while keeping things razor-sharp for the dancefloor. Pure minimal pressure with cinematic soul.

Kublai, the super talented young Mancunian residing producer is back on CIA with his next EP, and damn are we happy about it!

Quietly and diligently honing his craft, the quality just starts to ooze out of the music, becoming impossible to ignore and only a year after his last outing for the label, he’s now back with three new cuts on his ‘Feel Me EP’.

Once again showing the versatility that’s been obvious since even his first releases, the ‘Feel Me EP’ contains something for everyone, with Jungle, Motown and Dub influences all proudly on show and underpinning a true musicality and soul within the music. Alongside rig shaking lead track ‘Feel Me, there’s also a brand new collaboration with vocalist Rider Shafique to further shatter your bassbins.

The EP is tidily wrapped together with a beautiful reworking of ‘Young Soul’ by fellow up-and-coming Manchester producer Note. The track initially appeared on Kublai’s first EP on CIA and showcases a wonderful meeting of minds and a fitting full circle moment for this seriously talented and further blossoming producer.
