ALF CHAMPION is a experimental Producer, Visual Artist and DJ born in
Guadalajara, Mexico. His passion for music started at a very young age. He
released his first EP in Optimo Music Digital Danceforce in December 2019,
although his actual first EP was signed by 2MR (Mike Simonetti) in 2018,.
By the way Alf´s last name “Champion” is not a joke, it came from his Italian
ancestors; before it became “Champion” was originally “Campeoni” but in
times of World War II, when his family had to migrate from Rovigno, Italy to the
United States of America everything changed. Founder of Fucanglong Files
next to mexican producer Mufti.

"Unlike the other daytime curators, Lena Willikens chose to open La Sucrière's impressive main hall on Friday, playing alongside her usual back-to-back partner Vladimir Ivkovic. The two looked relaxed behind the decks, swaying, smoking and sometimes smiling. The crowd, less dense than during the other headliners due to the early start, were also in a good mood, using the extra space to feel out each beat of the slower selections. Much of the two hours felt like existing in the lagging moment of a sci-fi movie, just before a spaceship launches into warp speed (in a good way, I promise)."

The last DRIFT of the decade has arrived in the form of a mix from producer Sordid Sound System. Originally hailing from Glasgow, he is now based in California and has released a stream of fantastic material on the Scottish label Invisible, Inc. This includes his most recent project, Cape Perpetua which came out last month and features 5 tracks including a remix from Sascha Funke and a collaboration with the wonderful Eva Geist! If you haven’t heard anything from Sordid Sound System or Invisible, Inc I’d strongly recommend checking them out – the ‘Lost Transmissions from the Off-World Territories’ compilation album was one of my favourites from the last decade and contains some truly other-worldly sounds.

For this mix, Sordid Sound System brings together a collection of influences: the dark and dreary Scottish winters that he grew up with combining with elements from his two year stay in Humboldt County in Northern California to produce a brilliant mix stamped with his trademark style. The start aims to paint a bleak and empty picture, strongly reflecting this time of the year. A notable track here is Nico’s ‘Chelsea Girls’ -  which Sordid Sound System cites as essential listening for the Winter months. After this, the mix progresses through a wonderfully eclectic mix of genres, continuing on one long nihilistic dub acid trip, twisting and turning while always remaining constantly exciting. This is his normal approach to crafting a mix and allows space for two of his own tracks to slot seamlessly into the blend! For me this psychedelic journey is one of the most refreshing and musically engaging mixes I’ve heard in a long time – don’t sleep!

I'm very happy to present to you in this week's show one of my favourite producer from Liverpool UK and an extremely passionate, prolific and diverse musician Dan Wainwright.

He’s been releasing music in the underground acid house and balearic beat music scene for many years now with releases on Night Noise, Is It Balearic? And Manchester’s Sprechen Records.

Dan’s output has been so big that he’s started his self-released label, Oddball records to release more out there dub-influenced music and edits to keep up with himself.
His music has seen support from ALFOS, Justin Robertson, John Digweed, and many others. Dan’s life revolves around creating music and pushing his musical boundaries and he plans to keep doing just that.

Dan has a new dub release coming up with Rude Audio on Tici Taci at the end of this month.

Mark Bailey aka MAN2.0 has been splicing together sounds longer than he can remember, as a teen he graced the microphones of some terrible covers bands as well as DJing some of the most hedonistic house parties that Hayes Town had to offer, while by day working at the local record store. After throwing away his guitars and buying an appregiator his music gained a bit of attention from the Ransom Note and was taken under the wing of Tronik Youth. From the age of 18 he regularly attended Fabric and the now defunct End nightclub and Turnmills immersing himself in London’s club scene. With forthcoming releases on Nein and Night Noise, he gets the opportunity to attempt to emulate the sounds of his heroes Laurent Garnier, Darren Emerson, Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall and Justin Robertson.
