Great back to back to back DJ session on the @dubsmugglers soundsystem at this year's @dimensionsfestival in Croatia, alongside @floatingpoints, Tom Smith from the ace Cosmic Slop night in Leeds, ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/211633616863/ ) all held together by the mighty MC Kwasi. No one does a party quite like Mister Saturday Night.

Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin started the party – which soon developed a Sunday afternoon accompaniment, Mister Sunday – back in 2008, and it soon developed a reputation as one of the city’s most fun parties. “Fun” might feel like it downplays Carter and Harkin’s attention to detail – the pair are famous for their meticulous approach to organising parties, an attitude seen in a recent feature for XLR8R on setting up soundsystems, and they certainly don’t half-arse any aspects of the night – but with more smug, dull house nights than ever taking place worldwide, Mister Saturday stands out for its unpretentious, good times attitude.

As well as running one hell of a clubnight, Carter and Harkin have shown a smart ear for A&R in recent years, launching their Mister Saturday Night label with Anthony Naples’ breakthrough record Mad Disrespect (its title recently picked as one of FACT’s 100 tracks of the last half-decade), and housing music by Boya, Gunner Haslam, Dark Sky and more on the label.

This year, they compiled their label work so far with the Brothers and Sisters compilation, and followed it with their “own musical statement”, a live-recorded mix titled Weekends and Beginnings. Their FACT mix is a companion piece to Weekends and Beginnings, 18 tracks pulled live from the same session.

Over the past 8 years or so we have had, along with Theo Parrish, the honour of playing the monthly residencies at a small basement club in Shoreditch, London with an impeccable sound system. After 20 years of operation, it was time to move on and close the doors on a place that has a lot to answer for in shaping modern club culture. To say this space along with the owner Ade’s singular vision was fundamental in our personal musical formation would be a complete understatement. 
 
On the day of their closing, manager Charlotte asked us if we’d put the system through its paces for the last time that the club would be open to the public. We set about packing the anthems from our respective residencies and on the night once the people were through the doors played 2 records in turn for the rest of the dance. We included tracks of our own and of friends that were made with that place in mind. Records like Daphni - Ye Ye and Four Tet - Pinnacles were made to first be played at Kieran’s nights there, and the Floating Points - Vacuum EP was born out of the CD-R night at the club, and its launch party was the trigger for Sam’s monthly residency.
 
We set this recording up just before the start of the night and unfortunately it distorts in places, but we make no apology for how joyfully noisy people get! The vibe in the room this night was typical of the club on any given night and we hope this recording captures just a fraction of the spirit of a Plastic People night.
 
A massive thank you from us to everyone that has come down to the nights over the years and supported our music there. We are truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale. We also thank the bosses Charlotte Kepel and Ade Fakile for inviting us to the club and having faith in us over  these years! All the best for the future!

The mix is a perfect length for a drive from New York to DC, to fill up an entire workday (with a pause for a very long lunch), or for a slowly jogged marathon. An unashamed digger, unearthing the old informs Jeremy Underground's DJing just as much as breaking upfront material. Running the largely house imprint My Love Is Underground, his own DJing is far less restricted, tickling areas of jazz-funk, afrobeat, soul, balearic and disco. Unsurprisingly, this same eclectic curation runs through his new compilation on SpaceTalk (run by Psychemagik's Danny McLewin), titled Beauty, which samples the best of a revered DJ. For his Worldwide mix, Jeremy samples a bit of the old - in Sonya Spence, also on the new compilation - alongside some new favourites, like Conga Radio.

@tomasstation is the main pseudonym of Colombian born DJ and producer Tomas Garcia. Tomas has been bringing the groove to New York dance floors since his move here 4 years ago. Over the coming months I'll be sharing snippets of my sets at Phonox. Here's an hour captured during a warmup at my new residency. 

Since I’ve started it's allowed me to delve a bit deeper into the sounds I grew up with in Cape Town, South Africa around the late 80’s to early 90’s. It’s been very special and loads of fun playing and sharing "Kwaito" in particular, a genre formed at the end of apartheid which presented new musical possibilities and ideas, taking inspiration from classic Chicago House but with a slower and groovier tempo, enjoy!
