The first jazz song I tried to play, almost 10 years ago. From "Jazz på Svenska," the archetypical scandinavian jazz album. You can practically hear the heavy, Swedish forests... 

I didn't really understand the concept of improvising back then. My teacher told me to try to play "freely" - instead I went home and copied Jan Johansson's solos (at least the slower parts) note by note, rewinding the cd track every three seconds until I had memorized every bit. 

JJs playing has an elegance, subtlety and sparseness to it that I am going to try to learn more from. My own playing style is often quite aggressive, and a lighter touch wouldn't hurt. It must be a matter of technique: The more control you have, the lighter you're able to play...
