The old tree stood sentinel in the garden, its branches reaching towards the sky like gnarled, loving arms. It was where they'd always sat, Grandma and him, sharing secrets and stories.

He remembered her hands, soft and wrinkled, holding him as she points out the constellations.
He remembered her laughter, like wind chimes in a summer breeze, and the warmth of her hugs, a comfort that chased away every fear.
The house felt hollow, the silence echoing in every room. 
Her favorite teacup sat on the kitchen table, cold and untouched. The scent of her lavender perfume, once so strong, had faded to a ghost of a memory. 
He wandered into her room, the air thick with the faint scent of old books and dried flowers. Her worn knitting needles lay on the bedside table, the unfinished scarf a tangible symbol of her interrupted life. 
He traced the lines on her old photograph, his fingers lingering on her smiling face. 
A single tear traced a path down his cheek, a silent testament to a love that would never fade, even in her absence.
