This is the first track in The Minimal Series, focusing on dance floor minimal techno, and giving space to highlight the sound aesthetic. The artwork series is a tribute to Mondrian, combining sound with minimalism, neo-plasticism, and abstractionism.

“As we approach the edge of the Öpik–Oort cloud, we celebrate the confirmation that it exists, having long been only a theoretical concept, with no confirmed direct observations until now. Beginning at 2000 AU from the Sun, this spherical layer of icy objects is the source of many long-period comets; a cometary reservoir containing more than a trillion icy objects, some as big as mountains. Elements found here may well have formed before the Sun was born.”

This track was inspired by visiting the exhibition and event space, Kraftwerk Berlin, the former power station Mitte, at the centre of Berlin on Köpenicker Straße. The rhythmic industrial soundscapes attempt to audiolize the inner-workings of the past thermal power plant. The track is named in German after the 'Impulse Principle', which signifies the velocity of steam entering and leaving the turbine blades and nozzles, with also regard to direction and angle.

This track, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, was inspired by my recent summer in Berlin observing and enjoying the techno scene. The track is influenced by my experiences there, and also reflects what I wanted, but felt was lacking. The beat pushes the pace, with level changes and sounds to stimulate and energize, whilst creating an industrial feel and encompassing atmosphere. It is track one of twelve singles in the Light album.

This is a track for the DJ to play as dawn breaks; the synth sounds represent the shafts of sunlight breaking through, whilst the hard beat keeps you dancing through the dawn and into the morning.

Heute Nicht means 'Not today'; a common response used by the infamous Berlin club bouncers to deny entry. This track is a parody of the resulting situation which is an anxious nervous line of clubbers; it features heartbeat samples, daunting effects with elements of hope wrapped in techno beats, and dark industrial elements.

This track was inspired by a visit to the historic airfield, Tempelhofer Feld (now a public space) in Berlin. It is an intense, industrial, warehouse track with a Viking techno beat, WWII era air raid sirens, and a Cold War nuclear era siren creating the atmosphere.

This track is a bonus track on the Light album; it is a variation on track 8 - Berlin is Berlin - with vocals from my good friend Paul Ravenscroft. The song is an attempt to capture the whimsical nature of the Berlin techno clubbing scene, and also demonstrate its fast paced gritty harder side.

BACKGROUND Hegstraction grew up in the 80s & 90s heavily influenced by the emergent electronic music in Amiga, Nintendo & PlayStation video games & the movie soundtracks by electronic music pioneers Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis & Kraftwerk. Recent influences from German techno DJ/producers Felix Krocher & Stephan Bodzin.

INSPIRATION His inspiration differs from most artists as it comes from the dance floor where he is most at home. From over 20 years experiencing DJ sets worldwide throughout Europe, Asia, South & North America, his ideas have been shaped.

METHODOLOGY He approaches each track as a mini set, building up slowly, using level changes, sounds that stimulate & energize, following Skeletalism (using closely related sounds) & Massification (layering sounds over time) methods.
