Part 1:  Berklee: Is It's Quality Where It Should Be? Heidi J Vierthaler,  WRBB Spice News Update

This anthem was written when our group Students In Support of Berklee, which I helped to Co-Found, was formed to support our Teachers when they went on Strike during the Spring of 1986, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The song was written by Charlie Ballenger (RIP, FYI: 1992), and Mixed BUS(Berklee United Students) Productions came together when dozens of students crowded into a dorm room, I came in just in time to play drumsticks,  where Karl Fritz was mixing the song, with the assistance of Rich Lamb, on a Four Track with an Eight Channel Mixer and was bounced and bounced. This song was essentially "our" We Are The World, and it was blasted out of the dorm room during one of the many rallies that we held outside of our 150 Massachusetts Avenue Classroom and Dorm! 
If you were part of Mixed BUS(Berklee United Students) Productions and The Teachers Strike, as a Teacher or a Supporting Berklee Community Member (we don’t want Staff or Parents to be left out!), please leave a comment with the role that you played in the endeavor to ensure that you receive the proper credit that you deserve! 
This is a rare photograph in which you can't see that most of Mass Ave was blocked off, and during one of these rallies we had this building complex, including the Berklee Performance Center, the entire city block, encircled with students holding hands! In terms of achievements, the Teachers, who were third from the bottom of all institutions of higher education, including Secretarial schools, in the state of Massachusetts, did get a considerable pay raise; they got summer vacations, a Faculty Senate and binding arbitration, important to the union. Together we made massive Berklee history! 
Since then besides respectfully remunerating our Teachers, and with good benefits; Berklee has made many of the changes for which we asked, and then some. These transformations include constructing new buildings and renovating the old, providing student activities and many health care opportunities, operating BIRN an on-line multi-channel radio station (www.thebirn.com) establishing more professional venues in which to play, offering many more Majors and On-line courses (online.berklee.edu/?pid=5597) and founding a world class Career Development Center (available to Alumni too! See: www.Berklee.edu/cdc), to name just a few; improvements that have positioned Berklee as one of the best institutions to lead students into thriving music/careers in the twenty-first century (now if only they could make it more affordable for everyone to be able to attend I think I heard it now costs $50,000.00 a (year/semester?) to attend). I am just so grateful that Berklee's quality is where it should be today!

Ms. Vierthaler strives to utilize her skills to inspire people to create a more compassionate world. She seeks to share with audiences the political passions of professionals in the arts, social and environmental communities. Her advocate / journalist career dates back to 1980 when she wrote a newspaper article for a forum she produced as part of a successful campaign to halt the development of a toxic waste chemical treatment plant, two miles upstream from her home in Upstate New York. Having majored in broadcasting, Ms. Vierthaler has also earned a BA in Geography and Anthropology, providing her an insider’s insight to engage in vital discussions. 

Performing Arts Experience:
Ms. Vierthaler's performing arts experience spans the expanse of scriptwriting, producing, directing, hosting The WMEB 91.9FM Regional Rock Shock (Friday Night a 6 O'clock), band booking and promotional management, acting and singing. She has studied basic Music Production and Engineering and Filmscoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and also served as a Preliminary Judge for the Official John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She has performed on stages from Seattle to Maine, and has had entrée parts in the Movies Floating with Emmy Winner Chad Lowe, and A Civil Action, with John Travolta, Robert Duvall, Tony Shalhoub, James Gandolfini, etc..

Political / Environmental Advocacy: 
To back her messages with accuracy her collegiate education focused on globally important ecological issues. She majored in Human Ecology at College of the Atlantic and spent a semester at Long Island University at Southampton: The Friends World College Program, where she was introduced to the Cree who inspired her to create the “Maine Earth Day Alert for James Bay, North America’s Own Amazon” because Hydro-Quebec mega dams were imposing cultural genocide and ecological ethnic cleansing on this sacred indigenous culture. She is also an active Democrat.
