A composition on acoustic guitar.
 
Recorded in august 1984 while I was visiting my friend Daniel Heïkalo in Nova Scotia.
 
This track comes from a recording on an old cassette copy Daniel had at the time. As the master tape wasn't available, he had no choice but to work with it for creating a cleaned-up version and mastering the music.
 
I must credit Daniel for composing and arranging his own acoustic guitar part over mine, and his work for getting this recording to sound alive again.

A composition on acoustic guitar and autoharp with the collaboration of Daniel Heïkalo on acoustic and electric guitar,  and recorder. 

This track comes again from a cassette tape that Daniel used for mastering the recording. This is the result of few jams together while he was back to Montreal. 

Thanks to Daniel for reviving this recording.

Dix ans après

Improvisation on a zither autoharp, bass and mandolin. The harp is tuned
 in C lydian mode. Recorded in october 2009 and march 2011 .

Visions

	Je suis montréalais et québécois vivant à Saint-Jean de Matha. Je suis un musicien créateur oeuvrant dans la musique de film, de théâtre, d'improvisation et en électroacouatique. Ma musique, c'est assez varié: solis de guitare acoustique, classique, électrique, préparée (avec ou sans vinaigre...), du cistre, du délire d'impro free à la notation maniaque où tout est écrit...et néanmoins jamais exécuté deux fois pareil. Ya du folk, du minimalisme électronique, du blues de métèque sans métrique (ou à métrique de métèque étriqué?), du techno-arabo-bruitiste-concret quand même dansable, et dans l'sable quand ça devient saharien ou gobiesque, comme dans ma pièce le shaman techno du désert de Gobi. Ya aussi de l'électroacoutique, impur à ce que disent les zexperts en la matière, mais la pureté pour moi, ça a des arrières goûts de nazisme. Ya dans mon bagage sur CD des disques de percussion "junk" entremêlé de soudures électroniques et des cris primaux onomatopéïques en délire sur flûte à bec qualifiée de pataphysique (dixit Jean Derome…). Et bien d'autres choses aussi. Je m’amuse comme un grand fou, et amuse ceux qui ont le goût d’entrer dans ma danse ébourifée de capotage sonore. J'espère jouer au Québec l'été prochain.

Daniel Heikalo is a multi-faceted composer and instrumentalist living in Saint-Jean de Matha, Québec. Born in a french-speaking working class neighbourhood of Montreal, he grew up surrounded by fascinating architecture, colourful people, noise, pollution, poverty, and the kind of sensibility to deeply absorb the richness of his surroundings. He developed an appreciation for light and visual composition, architecture, that translated in his early involvement with drawing and photography, which he still practices professionally. He also discovered early on that his ear was musical, being able to memorize complex instrumental pieces which he would sing to himself on his way to school, or to alleviate the boredom instilled by that institution, not recommended for creative people. After realizing that he could sing in his mind complete lead guitar solos by the likes of Clapton, Zappa and Page, he thought that learning guitar might be a good thing. He was right and never looked back.

Heikalo now plays all kinds of guitars, banjo, cittern, mandolin, drums, percussion, recorders and invented instruments. He has 30 CDs available from Bandcamp.com, which range from classically-influenced folk and world music to electroacoustic sonic mayhem and free improvisation. He does all his recording, mixing and mastering in his home studio and records other musicians, theatre and video soundtracks.
