'Children of the Sun' is a mix about the sun and summer in general, made specially for Farmfestival 2014. 50 minutes designed to relax to outside, lying on the grass in the warmth of the sun. Taking in jazz, beats, ambient, soul, funk, rock and electronica each track comments on the sun, summer or the great outdoors in some way.

Nach nur einem knappen Monat können wir uns bereits mit der 16. Ausgabe unseres geliebten und sorgfältig gepflegten Furikasts zurückmelden.

Diesmal begleitet uns kein Geringerer als der legendäre und fantastische @Menqui !

Den in Berlin lebenden Tausendsassa zu beschreiben ist ebenso schwierig wie ihn musikalisch eindeutig zu verorten.
Dieses Vorhaben würde ihm auch gar nicht gerecht werden, denn genau das zeichnet sein musikalisches Schaffen erst aus.
Egal ob mit seinem @Riolabel , seiner Supergroup Dolphins, bestehend aus ihm, @Daloworks und @FreyBenedikt, oder @Pastforward, seiner Radioshow bei Cashmere Radio, die er zusammen mit @Hendrik_Stein und dem @Kryptic_dj betreibt. Es bleibt immer unkonventionell, frisch und spannend!

Aber auch wenn er sich alleine hinter die Turntables stellt, kommt stets etwas überraschendes und neues heraus. Menqui ist eben ein wahrer Meister seiner Künste und ein grosser Zauberer.

Mit Stolz und Freude präsentieren wir euch dieses ganz besondere und einzigartige Set und hoffen, dass es die Geister des Winters ein letztes Mal besingt, damit auch sie den Sommer durch ihre Ruhe finden können.

Furikast #16 Menqui

Pre-reggae roots music from the Caribbean and South America. These early songs, some of which are almost one hundred years old, all share a deep melancholy. They combine thoughtful lyricism and haunting melodies atop driving percussion. Sad Calypso, Biguine, Mento, Kaiso, and Cumbia convene in this mix to create a specific mood. It’s a mood I’m eternally seeking from other music - consciousness you can move to.

Pingipung Podcast 167: Elijah Minnelli - Upset in the Tropics

DJ Fog Puma aka Jean-Marie Dhur was infected by the post-punk, 2-tone and reggae virus at the age of 14, and soon acquired a solid collection of copied cassettes and mixtapes by trading with friends. A few years and some tangled cassette tapes later - initiated by the discovery of New Order's ‘Technique’ album - came the second epiphany in the form of Chicago house, Detroit techno, and communal euphoric dance experiences. Both spheres eventually merged into a preference for hypnotic, rhythmic, dubby, minimalist sounds with a counter-cultural and leftfield attitude. The affinity for this is still reflected in Fog Puma's DJ sets, which move along atmospheres rather than clearly defined genre boundaries. In addition to his dance sets, he also likes to play calmer music, which he presents monthly in the show Abendlandung on Cashmere Radio. And he is co-owner of the specialist bookshop Zabriskie in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

The source of inspiration for a Fog Puma mix are the sounds that are created incessantly by the countless great non-conformist, creative and experimental musicians worldwide - as well as moods that are generated by experiencing and connecting with plants, animals, landscapes, skies, weather and other natural phenomena. The mix for LiO is also inspired by the sounds on the chill-out floors of the 90s, which were mandatory for a proper rave back then.

I guess deeply rooted this mix was inspired by my father's taste in music back when I was still in the crib. i remember hearing spacey and loungy jazz tunes right from the getgo. those kind of sounds will stay with me for ever and constantly close circles of some sort."
