Davide Squillace kick starts 2020 with a release on his label This And That Lab from Greek artist Atsou who has also featured on other imprints such as Kindisch.

Atsou is also part of the Madorasindahouse crew and has also featured tracks on his own label Madorasindahouse Records that showcases a sound blending tribal chants and vibrant percussion to create melodic house with an Afro influence.

In 2019, Atsou featured a solo track on one of This And That Lab’s mixed artist EP’s, but this time he is back with a solo EP consisting of three original tracks.

“Awubone” opens the release with its glitchy synth stabs and brooding atmosphere that underpins aboriginal chants. Epic and full of drama, this charismatic cut of melodic house sets the scene for what’s to come on the EP.

Track two “Ghosts” gets deeper and more atmospheric. With a focus on the percussion, there is an ethereal atmosphere that shrouds the track in mystery. Spacious and full of soothing textures, the jovial melodies of this cut have a heart-warming excitement that’s perfect for enrapturing the dance floor.

“Storm Out” closes the release with its sensual sound that’s both smooth and mesmerising. Warm and welcoming, its melodies skip and jump between the percussion whilst the pads effortlessly float like a morning breeze.

Sobek makes a welcome return to Chapter 24 with an impactful EP built around title track 'Charmer' and a set of quality Editions from David Mayer, STATUE and Colossio.

Named after the Egyptian crocodile god, Sobek channels inspiration from a reptile of a different kind here. 'Charmer' is a pulsating afro techno cut anchored around a hypnotic synth line bound to enchant dancefloor and serpents alike.

David Mayer, veteran of Objektivity, Mobilee and Keinemusik adds a dose of unpredictability on his rework, upping the ante with a rolling techy bassline offset by wistful pads for an exciting, unstable feel that satisfyingly just holds together.

Australian STATUE takes the reins next, art house influences meeting warehouse techno for a remix that sits well alongside releases on Futureboogie, Cin Cin and Le Temps Perdu.

Finally Mexican Colossio closes the package with a solid dose of acid on his standout wonky techno Latin Papi Edition.

The artists showcased here make for a powerful team, each offering something clearly different while retaining the DNA of Sobek's excellent original. As ever with Chapter 24, expect stories in sound and music with meaning.

Sugar Baby is first and has stark hits and whipping synths flashing about the mix as a pulsing beat rolls on. It is cinematic and intergalactic techno to take you on a trip. Search Inside then ups the ante with more sci-fi stylings and surging beats all making for a physical yet melodic experience that gets you in a trance. Why then gets more low slung, with lush chords and plenty of late night colours permeating this driving groove. Filled with detail and soul, it's another classic. Jingle Jingle then closes out with a meandering lead that will take your mind away as it disappears off into space.
