Along side Todd's deeply hypnotic original, featuring the slick vocals of PRLZ, Boss man Oliver Dollar steps up to create a remix that takes the track to a smoother deep house territory than the heads down original.

Tesfa Williams celebrates his personal ancestry and the diversity of black electronic music with a name change on his Heist Recordings debut. 

First things first. T. Williams is now Tesfa Williams. And although the dot is gone after the T, by taking that away, the artist openend up a whole world of meaning, personal storytelling and recognition of his roots.  

“Originally when I started "T.Williams" it felt like my African first name Tesfa wouldn't be welcomed in the scene. Something I've experienced in general from school, college, work etc….. I grew up in a Rastafarian family with Carribean heritage and my parents decided to give me and my siblings African names to connect us to our African ancestry. I now feel like I’m ready to embrace this part of me as an artist and share it with the world.” 

Tesfa Williams is an artist with a long history in UK club music. Long before his critically acclaimed debut album in 2024 ‘Raves of future past’, he was knee-deep in the UK grime scene and throughout the years, he has built a strong reputation in UK funky, soulful house and Garage with remixes of Latch for Disclosure and Sam Smith (yes, that track), bumping originals on Strictly Rhythm, Local Action with Julio Bashmore, and much more. On his debut for Heist, we see the artist dig deep into his black roots and deliver an EP that celebrates his eclectic sound with 4 originals full of high notes.    

The ’Beyond today’ EP kicks off with ‘Moments Ahead’, a classic filter-house jam with lovely soulful chops and the perfect amount of grit. It’s the type of funky, peak-time house track that will ignite any dancefloor with its irresistible groove. ‘Get it together’ is a collab with likeminded Bristolian producer Wilfy D, and sees the artists layer some classic R&B vocals over an infectious warehouse groove. It’s the kind of track that’ll grab anyone’s attention on a first listen. The breakbeat loop in the background gives the percussion its dry immediacy and the sparse melodic hits and irresistible vocal chops turn this track into an absolute dancefloor monster.  

On the flip, the London producer merges his love for soulful house with contemporary electronics on ‘Brighter life’. There’s something deliciously breezy about this song, where the vocals, chord hits, sweeps, and hits deliver a groove that’s laidback and powerful at the same time. The electronic parts of this track are cleverly laid out to contrast the syrupy sweet vocal and underline the class of the artist’s ability to effortlessly blend genres.  

The EP closes with ‘Futures’, a bottom-heavy late-night burner much in the style of Dam Swindle’s 2023 Heist outing ‘Soul’s lament’ or the percussive goodness of Alma Negra tracks such as ‘Conversation’. There’s a nice blend of trippy electronics and driving Rhodes hits, which makes this a track perfect for those moments you simply want to go deep, heads-down, and feel the music.  

With ‘Beyond Today’, Tesfa Williams has written a piece of music that pays homage to so many of the genres that have influenced him as well as to his black roots. ‘Beyond Today’ is a contemporary club record that oozes positive energy just the way we like it and we can’t wait to play this one out to all of you.

2024 saw the return of real deep house to the clubs and with label hits like Makèz & Life on Planet’s release Running from the noise, Crackazat’s euphoric track ‘In the sky’ and Dam Swindle’s soulful bumper ‘Forever and Ever’, we know that there’s some serious heat available for this year’s Round Up.

We’re going into the 11th year of our annual remixes and we’ve got some tasty & unexpected combinations of artists. One of the highlights on this release is definitely Fouk’s remix of Elisa Elisa’s banger ‘Whistle me’. The original quickly gained support from many of the leading women in dance such as Shanti Celeste & Saoirse and we’ve now got Dutch duo Fouk with one of their best remixes in years by doing a complete flip on the warehouse vibe of the original. Their version is full of tropical whistles and percussion and cleverly detunes Elisa’s own vocal to match their style witha laid-back mood and heartwarming chords. This is the kind of track that transports you straight to a sunny beach where sunsets are the highlight of the day and dancing in the sand is all you wanna do.

Dam Swindle choose to remix DJ Sneak’s dark ghetto’esque track ‘I can tell you what you want’ and have turned it into a peak time garage monster with classic 909 elements, catchy vocal chops and a lead that soars through the track with relentless energy. This is the kind of track that gets any house party going with it’s immediacy and extremely effective arrangement.

On the other side of the spectrum, there’s Kaap’s remix of Crackazat DJ Sneak’s remix of Makèz that show you just how lush deep house can be with dubby elements, beautiful synth work. Perfect for the warm up and after hours!

Makèz shows us why they’re one of the most exciting producers coming out of The Netherlands at the moment with their uplifting remix of Dam Swindle’s gospel-house tune ‘Forever and Ever’. Heist Recordings was founded by Dam Swindle as a means to gain full control over their own releases, and to create a stage for likeminded musicians to showcase their music. From the first release on, Dam Swindle’s “Break up to make up” EP in summer 2013, Heist has been a go to label for proper underground house and electronic music. Now, nearly 40 releases and 5 compilations in, Heist has brought forward artists like Frits Wentink, Nebraska, Adesse Versions, Fouk, Kassian, Nachtbraker and Alma Negra and continues to search for new talent, with Lars & Maarten fully focused on the A&R side of the label. 

Up till 2016, remixes on the label have been solely done by other original Heist artists on the yearly “Round up EP”, where the remixer and remixee get connected by the luck of the draw and a limited edition double pack is put out. After that, Maarten and Lars decided it was time to add remixers to the EP’s as well, which saw interesting collaboration, expanded the label family with names like Matthew Herbert, Tom Noble, Pépé Bradock, Ge-ology and Byron the Aquarius. 

In 2023 we've celebrated 10 years of Heist Recordings. The year showed a whole batch of releases by new artists like Byron the Aquarius, Amy Dabbs and Cinthie and by Dam Swindle themselves.
