Lars Dales & Maarten Smeets are pillars of the dutch electronic scene for almost a decade and have adquired a worldwide reputation through their own awesome imprint Heist Recordings and countless releases on Aus Music, Dirt Crew, Tsuba or Freerange. They also have a new package of remixes for the legendary Salsoul label now !

Having taken their time to go through Salsoul’s vast catalogue, Dam Swindle chose to remix one of the seminal tracks in disco-soul history, First Choice’s 1977 ‘Let No Man Put Asunder’, paying homage to the original and adding “some serious Swindle punch.” The result is a deep, sultry update which showcases the brilliantly uplifting vocals, dreamy bassline and addictive percussion that made the original so loved. Reworks Vol 1 also features Dam Swindle’s remix of another classic, yet lesser known, Salsoul track, Kebekelektrik’s 1977 electro-disco odyssey ‘War Dance’. Dam Swindle chose ‘War Dance’ as it was a side project of cult producer Gino Soccio, who in Dam Swindle’s words “has been so influential in the evolution of disco.” Dam Swindle’s edit enhances the vibrant bursts of synths that sound as though they were from another planet, deployed alongside the hypnotic drumming for an update which was made to fill dancefloors, just as the original did all those years ago.

The saying good things come to those who wait has never been truer that the brand new Paper Cut EP which is out this week via @freerangerecords. Indeed it's been 15 years since the EP collaborators @shurikan and @miltonjackson last teamed up to release on Freerange.

Paper Cut captures the essence of both producers, it's deep, lush, jazzy in places, electronic yet soulful and packed with club know-how.

To celebrate the release we have a full interview incoming later this week with UK deep house don Shur-I-Kan. Michigan born Rick Wade might not get the headlines of his more celebrated Detroit peers, but few have done as much to contribute to the house canon as he. For nigh on two decades ‘big daddy Rick’ has consistently turned out deeply channeled grooves that need every second of their often elongated lengths to have best effect. Peppered only lightly with strings, the odd breathy voice or some other delicate hook culled from the funk and soul sounds around which he grew up, Wade’s style is the perfect embodiment of minimum effort, maximum impact.

A famously rapid and prolific producer who turns out hundreds of excellent tracks on a non stop basis, Wade is also the force behind legendary imprint Harmonie Park, which has released classics from peers like Mike Huckaby, amongst others. His own discography stretches to three pages and is a pure gold mine for house heads, with each track sounding as timeless as the next. In DJ terms Rick is just as assured, laying down sets that are tinged with funk and soul and keep you dancing in his long form grooves all night long. From Europe to the US, this true house legend has played every venue worth its salt.

Heist Recordings was founded by Dam Swindle as a means to gain full control over their own releases, and to create a stage for likeminded musicians to showcase their music. From the first release on, Dam Swindle’s “Break up to make up” EP in summer 2013, Heist has been a go to label for proper underground house and electronic music. Now, nearly 40 releases and 5 compilations in, Heist has brought forward artists like Frits Wentink, Nebraska, Adesse Versions, Fouk, Kassian, Nachtbraker and Alma Negra and continues to search for new talent, with Lars & Maarten fully focused on the A&R side of the label. 

Up till 2016, remixes on the label have been solely done by other original Heist artists on the yearly “Round up EP”, where the remixer and remixee get connected by the luck of the draw and a limited edition double pack is put out. After that, Maarten and Lars decided it was time to add remixers to the EP’s as well, which saw interesting collaboration, expanded the label family with names like Matthew Herbert, Tom Noble, Pépé Bradock, Ge-ology and Byron the Aquarius. 

2023 we've celebrated 10 years of Heist Recordings. The year showed a whole batch of new artists like Byron the Aquarius, Amy Dabbs and Cinthie and Dam Swindle themselves.
