We've got some good news for those hip shakin', booty breakin' lovers of bumpy house music: Fouk are back on Heist. Their new Truffles EP is packed with swinging goodness and comes with a jazzy Hugo LX remix. Nearly 2 years after their 'With Lasers' EP, we now give you the 'Truffles' EP. The A-side kicks off with the title track and instantly shows you a new side of Fouk. 'Truffles' is their take on what ravey piano house should sound like and it's funky as hell. Meanwhile, 'I'll be down' is about as Fouk as you can get. With their ever so sexy percussion, a moody vocal and synthy sprinkles all around, you hear so much of what makes their music so energetic and inspiring.

The Truffles EP marks Fouk's third outing on Heist Recordings, which has served as both a launching pad and a laboratory of sorts for the Dutch duo. With each effort on the label, the Utrecht boys have gradually tinkered their sound. While the Kill Frenzy EP may have marked the peak of the label's deep disco lean, With Lasers displayed exploration from the duo into more hardware and synthesizer-showcasing waters. Truffles furthers the experimentation, with Fouk integrating newer, unexpected flavors into their repertoire.The title track, and our premiere for the occasion, sets its foundation on an uptempo percussion sample and vintage drum programming. A tightly arpeggiated acid bass and throwback pads lead the build up to the main action of the track; a big piano riff that helps shift the tune into its higher gear. "Truffles" is certainly a changeup to the duo's normally hi-fi sample/synth blend, though perhaps it shouldn't come as a complete surprise since Heist has a penchant for pushing its roster of artists to pursue new sonic palettes.The remainder of the EP, on the other hand, is more akin to the Fouk of days past; "I'll be down" and "Need my space" falling more closely in line with the duo's playful deep house sound. Perhaps the presence of piano and drum machine motifs tie the EP together in a way, conceptually speaking. To round things out, Hugo LX's remix of "I'll be down" is a chilled jazzy house affair accentuated by a sultry trumpet lead.Truffles is available on 12" vinyl on March 22, and digitally three days later on March 25.

Fouk are back on Heist. Their new Truffles EP is packed with swinging goodness and comes with a jazzy Hugo LX remix.

After a busy period last year, Fouk have taken the time to experiment in their studio, focusing on expanding their sound and releasing only a handful of tunes. Their ‘Mating Call’ EP on their own label Outplay saw them explore the deeper side of things, while remixes for artists like Joey Negro on his own Z Records alongside Ron Trent saw them show off their production skills with a superb hi tech funk track.

On the flip, ‘Need my Space’ sounds like something you’d hear if Pépé Bradock and Charles Webster would get together in the studio: dreamy synth lines, lovely textures and weird electronics over an ever so sexy bassline.

The remix on this EP comes from Parisian artist Hugo LX, whose love for soulful electronic music and jazz are perfectly presented in his remix of ‘I’ll be down’. His version is filled with shimmering leads, synth hits and some lovely horns for good measure. For us, this is a case of jazzy deep house at its best.

Heist Recordings was founded by Dam Swindle as a means to gain full control over their own releases, and to create a stage for likeminded musicians to showcase their music. From the first release on, Dam Swindle’s “Break up to make up” EP in summer 2013, Heist has been a go to label for proper underground house and electronic music. Now, nearly 40 releases and 5 compilations in, Heist has brought forward artists like Frits Wentink, Nebraska, Adesse Versions, Fouk, Kassian, Nachtbraker and Alma Negra and continues to search for new talent, with Lars & Maarten fully focused on the A&R side of the label. 

Up till 2016, remixes on the label have been solely done by other original Heist artists on the yearly “Round up EP”, where the remixer and remixee get connected by the luck of the draw and a limited edition double pack is put out. After that, Maarten and Lars decided it was time to add remixers to the EP’s as well, which saw interesting collaboration, expanded the label family with names like Matthew Herbert, Tom Noble, Pépé Bradock, Ge-ology and Byron the Aquarius. 

In 2023 we've celebrated 10 years of Heist Recordings. The year showed a whole batch of releases by new artists like Byron the Aquarius, Amy Dabbs and Cinthie and by Dam Swindle themselves.
