Their quarter-century birthday commemorations raise the bar once again as a variety of sounds and styles come together for a 174BPM compilation like no other.

DRS & Dynamite, two legends who have taken the scene by storm with their collaborative outfit, team up with Logistics for a new-wave remix of the 2009 heater ‘Jungle Music’. Wordsmiths by nature, DRS & Dynamite lay down carefully crafted bars paying homage to their love for jungle and its roots over Logistics’ revamped instrumental.

Stepping up for remix duties on Danny Byrd’s iconic ‘Salute (feat. MC GQ)’ is none other than the king of the amen, Remarc offering his clear cut production skill. Breaks processed to perfection and an unruly bassline are fused flawlessly with elements of the original, including the nostalgia-inducing horns and illustrious vocals of drum & bass veteran GQ.

An instantly recognisable anthem to any drum & bass fan and an undeniable staple in the Hospital Records back catalogue, ‘Beautiful Lies’ by B-Complex gets the remix treatment from L-Side who’s been making moves with the V Recordings crew. The future meets a classic as minimal bouncing drum work and ripping bass stabs instil bursts of brand new energy into the track.

Expect a collision of sonic realms in Halogenix’s remix of Kings Of The Rollers’ infamous ‘Shella (feat. Chimpo)’. Flying the flag for the Critical Music family, Halogenix’s 2021 rendition which has been generating excitement from corner to corner in the world of drum & bass for some time now unleashes an absolute growler of a bassline as Manchester’s very own Chimpo dominates the topline.

The VIP mix of Species, is a deadly combination of both Serums original mix of Species and Blood Red, creating a monster of a VIP. The Doc Scott inspired track Redeemer, has the spirit of Doc Scott’s early productions, combined with Serum’s modern production but without losing that old school grit or the groove. Serum says of both Species & Blood Red are quite inspired by the original Virus releases. I sampled a lot of experimental electronic music from the 60s and 70s and used vintage style hardware to bring out the right character in the sounds’.

Induktiv - Rush Hour [Free Download]

After 15 years and over 30 releases, Toronto native Stranjah is set to release his first full-length LP on DJ Ink’s seminal Architecture Recordings. One of the first producers to gain international acclaim out of Toronto’s storied Drum & Bass scene at the turn of the century, Stranjah (real name Alan Lam) saw his early productions catch the ears of some of D&B’s elite. This lead to releases on foundation imprints like Metalheadz, 31 Records and Flex Records.  His style has always involved incorporating a melting pot of influences and experimenting with the full spectrum of Drum & Bass. “Visionz of a Future” sees Stranjah turning in a whole album centered on the core sounds that got him his initial attention in the nineties. The album’s dark and minimal aesthetic relies heavily on moody, atmospheric overtones with an emphasis on brooding sub bass and pulsating drum patterns, all drenched in a melancholic soul that makes the project just as playable at home on headphones as it does on a huge rig.

Opening cut “Eminence” builds a hazy smoked out groove with head nod bass anchoring languid melodies and chord progression. “Decadence” ups the tempo using steppers beats and garagey tones, combining ravey synth leads and a low growling reese bass that builds the track’s tension as it twists and turns. “Assassinz Redux” continues the Rave theme encapsulating the essence of late night journey sets on a massive system. It’s rolling Jungle vibe, uplifting piano hooks and melodic vocals fit right in pocket with some of Commix and S.P.Y’s similar leaning output. Title track “Visionz Of A Future” employs stark melodies over crashing breaks creating a futuristic, robotic soul soundscape underpinned by lethal sub bass. “Interrogator” feat Evidence slows the tempo down to 140 bpm, a pace that Stranjah’s style fits perfectly with. Low slung, gritty techno tinged dungeon dub that is in direct homage to the brand of dubstep championed by the likes of Youngsta and LX One.  “Changeling” goes down Headz at Bluenote territory combining chunky hardstep breaks with a vicious speaker rattling bassline and chill inducing atmospherics.  A huge dance floor workout and album stand out.  The bass cone pummeling continues on “Krypwok” where Stranjah’s mastery of creating tension and aggression out of minimal components is on full display. B Boy beats, Kilimanjaro subs and spine tingling synths layer up to bruising effect.  “Medusa” feat the gruff vocals of rapper Greezy proves to be an excellent collaboration as Greezy’s rugged voice gels perfectly with Stranjah’s signature moody dub wise. More of this partnership in the future? Teaming up with fellow Toronto producer Evidence again on a half step tip, “Undertow” is just as the title suggests: Murky, submarine bass and lurking bleep textures gel with dubbed vocals and 808 woodblocks. This is another fruitful collaboration whose possibilities excite for the future.  “Sorry” feat Tiff Mak on vocals showcases Stranjah’s proficiency at the 140 bpm tempo once again.  Stuttering bongos, swampy bass and eerie analogue grit create the perfect backdrop for Tiff Mak’s mournful crooning.  Finishing on a style near and dear to Stranjah’s past body of work, “Amen Fury” is exactly as it sounds.  Dark side Jungle chords build to high pass amens before the full power of the break is unleashed with a destructive combination bass line that rips through your whole body. The MC doesn’t need to call for it, as rude boys scream their throats raw and slap which ever flat surface they can reach: Pull UP!

“Visionz of a Future” culminates a decade and a half of production skill and musical exploration into one concise package that reminds you of the beast lurking within the soft spoken kid from Canada.  The vision of the future for Stranjah is simple:  Endless contributions to the Bass Music canon and his place set in stone as one of the greatest to ever do it from his well documented city.

Heist, also known as Strider if you’re looking to go way back into his discography, has been dominating, innovating and revolutionising speaker bins for 20 years now. No matter the year, his tunes always felt relevant, yet discernibly his, and in many cases were integral in pushing the limits of the Drum and Bass spectrum a bit further and a bit deeper than the status quo. His sound has travelled the ins and outs of the Drum and Bass super-highway many times, maturing as it grew from its humble yet bad and bashy beginnings found on classics like ‘Company 7’, ‘Beetle juice’, ‘Philly Styler’ and ‘Iron Hide’.

Also a badboy DJ for just as long (longer than heist in fact - he was dj’ing in the early 90’s under a different synonym). It’s tunes like ‘Go to work’, Sleep in ya eyes and ‘Don’t hold back’ as well as his high-octane DJ sets, that propelled him into super-stardom way-back-when. And in the minds of many, solidified Heist as a bonafide legend resulting in too many collaborations, endorsements and appearances to list. 
Having graced the catalogues of many iconic, foundational labels like Playaz, Charge, Ganja, V, Digital Soundboy, Frontline, Full Cycle, Philly Blunt, Low down deep and Metalheadz! All one needs to do to understand why Drum and Bass royalty like Dillinja, Hype, and Goldie, took notice so early on is…listen. Listen to any of it! It’s as though Heist had the foresight to be as fastidious about what he released to others as he has been about what he releases on his own signature imprints, Sumo Beatz, Calypso and Co-Lab.

Receiving previous critical acclaim whilst engineering for DNB forefather and legend, Goldie, as well as on his own celebrated productions, Heist has found a home for most of his current output on two-time award-winning label, Low Down Deep Recordings. Big things are coming on the label from Heist, like the cheeky ‘Bug Patrol’ and also ‘Felt Rich’ both doing dance floor damage from a host of DJ’s and support on BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM amongst other radio stations for both of these tracks and most likely more Heist bangers! Some exciting future projects are also in the works for a few labels that have yet to see the likes of Heist...The return of Sumo Beatz is also in store, with a bunch of ‘select cuts’ he has been just waiting to get out there on his own label. If history serves, there’s truly no telling what Heist will cook up next or how hard his freshly-brewed baselines will hit, but the future does look bright for the now DNB legend, to say the very least. With a plethora of music in the works as well as tour dates across Europe and the globe actively brewing in the cauldron, 2022 is looking deadly.
