Slow Down 10

On that full-moon day just before the summer solstice, Hekske (The Little Witch) took off from her home forest in Flanders and flew a whole day in Eastern direction over mountains and valleys, before she sensed she had reached her destination on the bank of the mighty Dnieper River, where she was welcomed by Irina (Ірина), a young witch whom she met already last spring (see Witchtape #117).  After a long welcome hug, Irina explained that she was sad because this year there were - for no apparent reason - no flowers in the lowlands around the river, while there were lots of butterflies.
After taking a refreshing bath in the majestic river, the girls chatted for the whole evening before drifting into a blissful sleep in each other’s arms.  The next morning, Irina explained that she had dreamt about a lost tribe of witches, who live on the other side of the Ural mountains.  After eating wild strawberries, raspberries and red currants for breakfast, both witches suddenly felt the urge to fly, after which they took off and flew towards the East.  Strangely, they were being followed by hundreds of colorful butterflies from all kinds of different species.  They flew East/Northeastwards over endless green plains, crossing the mighty Volga River and the rugged slopes of the Ural mountains, after which they flew over a dry and treeless steppe.  As the witches had to fly slowly so that the butterflies could catch up, the trip over western Siberia took several days.  They rested whenever they saw a river or a lake.  Finally, the landscape became greener and lusher again until they reached the majestic Ob River.  In the distance they saw a huge meadow full of flowers in the middle of a vast forest.  The witches gently touched down in the meadow, where they were being welcomed by a group of young witches.  Strangely, the butterflies didn’t land and kept on hovering high in the sky.  After the customary group hug, one of the witches (named Agniia / Агния) explained that this tribe of witches got isolated a few centuries ago, after a dispute of which nobody remembers the reason.  Since then, they live near this meadow which is full of flowers but without butterflies.  None of the Siberian witches had ever seen a butterfly and they only knew these insects from old stories and songs.  
Just at that moment, the butterflies gently fell down from the sky like snowflakes and immediately started to drink nectar and pollinate the countless flowers.  The Siberian witches looked in awe at the mesmerizing insects for hours.  They danced and giggled the whole day.  It was easily the happiest day of their lives. It was the day the butterflies returned …

Awwwww, get ready to be baptized by a tsunami of depth, creative-heart-power & L-O-V-E from BeYond co-founder Narfux:  it's her epic Friday night set on the Saga Floor at Bucht der Träumer 2022...whoooosh!

When the music tickles a deep longing in your heart, awakens your lust for being alive, creates a kaleidoscope of imagination & seduction, animating both the inner-children that need to play, and the ancient-wise ones that know we need to dance to feel human:  it's not JUST about the music.  

It's the reflection of the vibrant soul behind the decks:  they are infusing the heart of the dance-floor with their love and life-force...and anyone who has been baptized by Narfux's beats and been embraced by her presence knows exactly how this love-shower feels like:  like warm rain in August, like cheeky fairy-spirits dancing inter-dimensionally, like green moss beckoning you into a cuddle-puddle of love and tenderness.

With so much gratitude to the raver-gods-of-Berlin for allowing us to drink from her nectar. Enjoy the journey, and keep on coming back for more (as we all do).

I want to say a huge heart felt thank you to all of you that joined me on this journey, with a bumpy start in technics you all stood patiently in trust with me, allowing me to be vulnerable in my human-ness, supporting the natural ways of imperfection and then celebrating with so much love and togetherness. Frederic Leighton fared as an underestimated salon painter up till 1895. Then he painted this masterpiece – Flaming June. It sings to us with radiant color and elemental symbols. Many see this painting as simple. It’s a beautiful woman in a glorious dress. They’re not wrong. But as with most masterpieces, more levels of meaning resonate here. The initial pulse check on this painting delivers heat. It’s titled Flaming June for good reason. Orange bursts through the canvas as cascading fire. The gown’s flames ripple like an out-of-control blaze. This lovely woman seems to sleep inside an inferno. Surrounding details balance this piece, though. It’s not only about fire. Leighton frames June with earth, sea, and air elements to harmonize the painting. Frederic Leighton painted Flaming June only about a year before his death. With that in mind, the painting crosses the boundary between an artist’s work and their legacy. Leighton was popular in his day. As a British painter, he made lots of money and was even knighted. But few would have guessed he’d paint a true masterpiece. His work fit into the category of salon paintings. Today’s equal might be an artist who does pieces to match interiors for one percenter. He far outdid himself with Flaming June, though. This beauty speaks to us beyond any decorator’s vision. It touches us today as a glorious masterpiece.

We are delighted to welcome our next guest, @eve1-lyn, a resident of @octorecords. playing techno-oriented music. Eve Lyn's primary interest was always music. Her life revolves on music. She is a pianist who also sings in a Bulgarian choir and teaches music. Her major concentration as a yoga instructor is music and reciting mantras with various kirtan ensembles. She was requested to DJ at the inaugural Christmas market at Dachkantine in Zurich around 20 years ago. Eve Lyn is very enthusiastic about bringing people together on the dance floor, and after years of performing techno music, Today, she is experimenting with various downtempo genres.

Leika is a DJ from the Black Forest in the South of Germany. Her musical spectrum ranges from slow to fast, from deep and versatile Downtempo to fluffy Techno and groovy Deep Tech. 

Her ability to adapt and transform makes it hard to pinpoint her style, but you can be sure that she always manages to make you smile.

Here are a few words from the artist:

"Sometimes life just rushes by and you just stand there: „Wait - what about me!“ Then you need to take a break, otherwise you don’t get anything done. So this is what this set is: the story of someone taking a short break in all the busy-ness of the daily grind, starting with much-needed calmness (beginning with a track I coproduced with my partner Konrad Dycke for our project Daeumelin, a long time ago), and then slowly picking up energy and developing into a more lighthearted sound, ending again with something peaceful."
